It's been cool here with temps into the 50 to 60 range and getting into the 30's at nite. Is it possible to spray urethanes primers (napa 15221) during say a day where temps are in the 50's and temps dip into the 30's at nite without heat? Thanks for your HELP!!!!

Most paints/primers will tell you on the label or p-sheet what the temp range is. All the ones that I've used specify temps above 55 degrees F.

I would read the label or ask the paint store excatly what temp is needed for that paint. My experiences with expoy are that they needed to be sprayed when its nice and warm out. That 55 degrees might take that expoy forever to cure and dry, wheres on a primer surfacer you can get by, but expoies like higher temps. If at all possible get some type of heat source in your shop, just make sure it doesnt burn disel fuel or anything with silicone...Eric

If you are going to use epoxy at below 60 degrees you are going to be in big trouble. If epoxy doesn't cure right away after being applied, it never will and you will have to scrape it off. If you use urethane (over etch primer)and the temp drops below 60, curing stops, but will resume whenever the temp gets back up above 60. Still best to maintain at least 60 degrees for optimum results.

Gordon has it, and 15221 is a urethane. If you can get a cheap propane heater that goes on a 5 gallon tank. Put it in the garage and heat up the place for a few hours before priming. Then REMOVE the heater and prime. Do this in the morning so the primer has all day in the "50's". 55 is a bare bones minumum but if you can get the surface temp up on the parts it will cure as long as it stays up for a few hours.
