Had an old school bodyman paint my car about 2and a half years ago with base/clear 68 chevelle white. he used lead instead of bondo in small areas on a fender and a rear panel, (small dent and a couple waves, no rust), which after about 6 months turned a yellowish color on all areas where it was applied. It was pretty hard to see, but in the right light it looked pretty goofy. About 6 months after moving to Denver (about a year ago), this yellowish hue went away and the paint looks perfect.
Explanations?

YOu may or may not know that I was a paint rep for almost five years and I learned A LOT about the technical aspects of this few mil thick of color on our cars called paint. I have never heard or seen anything like this.

Before I got to the part about it going away, I would have just said it was the acid in the flux or the bees wax from paddles, plain and simple. But then you went and added the going away thing......it still must be the two items I mentioned but I have no brillant technical reason! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Oh yeah, I had a bodyshop look at it while it was there, and they said it was the lead making the paint discolor. But, why did the discoloration go away? anyone with serious comments please reply.

Ok, WAY abstract and purely something that is just speculation, BUT, if there was a certain type of pollution in the area you used to live in, it may have collected on your paint and had a little electrochemical fling with your lead filler through the paint, discoloring the paint. Why it might have reversed? well maybe this was some equilibrium system and as soon as the reactant was removed from one side of the system, lt restored itself... just a thought.
