My 71 does not have any firewall insulation. The carpet ends, and then it's just the bare firewall showing with that ugly brown-orange paint. I have a couple questions about what I need to buy and about installation...
Do the firewall pads go all the way down to the carpet?
Is there supposed to be a trim piece where the carpet meets the firewall?
Can the pad be installed without removing the dash? (no heater box in car)
My car used to be AC equipped. All the AC and heater components are gone. Do I still need the firewall pad listed for AC or can I get the one for non-AC?
Thanks for any help. If someone has a pic of the area, that would be greatly appreciated too!

Yes there is a plastic trim piece available from the venders. Mine was missing also and just picked one up from Ground up.
Also if your bare metal all the way up, you are missing other things there to. There is some type of insulation the has like a rubber coating over it above the gas pedal area.
My upper firewall insulation is falling apart and I'm just going to glue some other than stock type of insulation with the aluminum looking back to it.

Does that plastic trim piece go all the way across or is it just on the drivers side? I have the plastic cover on the drivers side.
Thanks

The rectangular hole in the fire wall, through which passes the air for the AC, is larger in your car than for a car that did not come stock with Air Conditioning. So, you'll need the AC specific pad.
Just paint the exposed stuff black. Unless you expect somebody to be upside down in the passenger side foot area. :D You'll still get awards just based on the rest of the car.
Chevelle-abration this year? hmm?

This rectangular hole is now just covered by a plate, so if the non-AC pad will give more coverage, I would prefer that. Unless the mounting points are different for each pad?
Thanks for the help.

Nevermind, I see the pad comes as a solid piece with perforated sections that you remove yourself. I can just leave the ac box area attached on the pad.
