I wonder if 68 and 69 chevelles had an radiator overflow bottle of any kind. Big Block? Small Block?

No!:noway::noway: :noway: :noway: :noway: In those days, they dumped the toxins right on the ground and into the drinking water, like real men!!

This thing looks factory and is easy to install IF you don't mind modifying your car.

FYI, I use a factory overflow tank from a '76 malibu on my '70 chevelle.

It's virtually invisible, tucked inside the front fender behind the battery, held on by one bolt at the fender lip. Looks like the car came that way - not sure if this would work on the '68-'69 fenders, though.

Here's an early pic of it - a bit dirty, but you get the idea:

Hey Tom
Where did you get that overflow bottle? I have a 68 Chevelle. Will it work for me?

Was that your s/b vette pic? I had a Mountain Dew rigged on mine for the track, I do need to get one that looks good. I like that 76 Malibu idea.

When I bought my '68 there were boxes of miscellaneous original parts that came with it and in one was an overflow tank that appeared like it was a parts store replacement. Never really thought more about it until I saw one exactly like it go on ebay back about a month or two ago. The seller had it described as an original overflow tank taken off of a '68. It actually got competitive with the bidding and ended up going for something like $55. Makes me wonder. I have never seen another one like it either for sale or actually mounted on a '68. I'm trying to figure out now where and how it would mount.

Typical ebay sales hype, 68's never had one :D

I just don't fill the radiator up all the way anymore, Now since I leave room for expansion it usually don't ever puke.

You didn't say which Tom you wanted. :D

The parts may still available from GM, the "tank" is p/n 14070997 and the cap is p/n 15630112. The only modification to the tank is to cut off one of the three mounting tabs as you won't need it to mount it in the Chevelle. You will have to drill two holes in the inner fender to install it but it looks like it came from the factory, the tank fits the inner fender perfectly. Don't forget to get a new radiator cap, get one for a closed system off a 85 Caprice.

There is a tank that fits better...should be available thru a Buick repop parts dealer. A-body Buicks from 70-72 had coolant overflow tanks and they fit perfectly on the passenger side inner fender. I used to have one and that is the only one I have ever seen that looks even somewhat correct.

Dave

Here is a link to e-bay for a pic, but $150? WOW!

Oh really? I guess it's all a matter of opinion, but I think the parts listed above look pretty "natural" once installed. ;)

Hey it's a matter of opinion I guess. The Buick one dosen't sit so close to the battery and you don't have to cut it up. I personally prefer to run one behind the battery inside of the fender if I have to like at the track.

I just ran a rubber tube under my radiator and up into the windshield washer fluid bottle, looks pretty stock if you ask me.

I agree 468Brian, I did the same thing. No extra bottle under the hood.
