: GM Performance distributor
GregC Mar 10th, 07, 1:45 PM I just bought a performance distributor for my 350. Its p/n 93440806 from the GM catalog. It says it uses a connector for the tach and power; p/n 12167658. Now I don't have a tachometer, so does anyone know if I absolutely need this part to connect the 12volt power? Would I be able to use my current connection? I have not yet received the distributor, so I don't know what the connection looks like, but I want to be prepared when it arrives. If I do need it, is there an equivalent part that maybe ACDelco makes that I can pick up from NAPA or O'Reillys?

What is your current connection? Do you have to have it, no, a standard female connector will work, but with the factory type connector has a clip so the wire will pull out. Jegs also sells these type of connectors.
novaderrik Mar 11th, 07, 1:08 AM any good parts store will also have the wire with the connector that you need.
just use a quality female side of a blade connection
oops....as greg already stated above
GregC Mar 11th, 07, 8:29 PM I actually can't find anyone who has this part. Not NAPA, O'Reillys, Advance, Autozone, PepBoys...at least not locally. Can anyone suggest a place? I did find one for $5.99 through Jegs like Greg U stated, but it's $11.99 shipping! HAHA. Would I be better off trying to find the part at pick and pull? All I need really is the plastic clip on the end of the wire. The clip on mine broke, so I have keep it taped on right now.
novaderrik Mar 11th, 07, 10:25 PM what year is your car? if it's a 68 or later, then head to a boneyard and pull the entire HEI power wire out of the harness of a mid 70's car or pickup. there's no cutting involved, but you will need a 3/8" socket and flat screwdriver to get it out of the bulkhead connector.
you can then replace the whole factory resistor wire in your original harness with this wire.
BillK Mar 11th, 07, 10:56 PM Greg,
See if you can find a real parts store. Ask them for an HEI harness connector. I would bet that your Chevy dealer either has it or can get it too. If you are putting this distributor in your 70, you need to remove the stock resistance wire that feeds your point system. Do a google search on HEI conversion, there are many articles about it.
GregC Mar 12th, 07, 12:39 AM Actually, it's already got an HEI; it's a '78. Should I get a completely new wire to be on the safe side? I was looking for a new plastic clip really, but it's ridiculous how the simplest part is the hardest thing to find.
novaderrik Mar 12th, 07, 1:07 AM since it's a 78, then just put a new end on the existing wire. again, hit the boneyard and find one.
