currently removing the surface rust on my 71, had to get it down to the metal, ive already put 1 coat of primer on, how long should i wait to ptu the next coat on and how many coats should i put on?

What kind of primer are you using? You using a etch primer, expoy, urethane primer surfacer, it all depends on what you are using. Alittle more info would be nice First the primer I would use on bare metal is a self etch primer, it contains a mild acid that bites into the metal aiding in corrosion and adhesion, the best primer to be used on bare metal. Expoys have there place but not on bare metal in my book, they just dont hold up like a etch does. A urethane primer or commonly called a 2K primer is only meant to be used to fill minor imperctions in the surface not to be used on bare metal.

Most etch primers Ive seen are one coat applications, allow the recommend flash time which is ranging from 15 to 45 mins before you can topcoat with next product. Expoy can be applied from one to three coats, PPG has a flash time of 15 mins before the next coat and a time of 60 to 15 mins for topcaoting depending on the hardener.

And even reading the label on the can can provide with the needed answer...Eric

im using an epoxy, never even thought to look at the label, duh
