It's FINALLY undercoating time for the 64 GTO frame off I've been working on, before it goes back onto the frame for fillerwork. Anyway, I've used 3m undercoat alot, but I want some nice THICK stuff, and the stuff the PPG rep has I just am not liking alot. Anyone have any suggestions?

i USED A TRUCK BEDLINER. cAN'T REMEmber the name right now. Look in my sig for the website, and look in there. I'm really happy with it so far. Heavy duty, for sure, and I applied it here at home.

I would check out Wurth USA undercoat. I was a sales rep for them a while ago and they make some amazing underbody chemicals.

Thanks fellas, any other input? Gonna stay away from the bedliner, not that I don't want to use it but we are going the very original way with this one. So original I ended up replacing the phillips head screws I had holding the body plugs in with the same screw but with the original type 5/16" hex head.... not really my idea of a fun car but I'm not paying the bill so.. if he want's I'll paint it pink with purple stripes! I know that undercoating they had on there was thick as hell and almost like tar. A real PITA to get off in some spots.

Why do you want to undercoat the entire bottom of a frame off car? The only place there was undercoating was the wheel wells originally.

I use a water based stuff I get from JC Whitney, ( I know). But, it comes pretty thick and you mix it with water to get it to go on with any look you want. Of course really heavy texture for the 60's cars. When you open the can it looks brown, but it dries black. I have used this for years. It comes in round gallon paint cans. It's cheap and holds up well. But, practice with it before you do you car. You can really make it look just right!

Good stuff... is it like truck bed rino liner?
How did it come? how did you apply it? Does it have to be that gritty?

It's not as pliable as Rhinoliner.
It come's in a 2 part mix.
You can use a schutz gun, or buy the special gun, for about 20.00.
You can select your own texture, by how you spray it.

I'm just loving the stuff, durable, and easy to clean.

This car actually had almost 1/4" of undercoating all over it. Pretty sure it wasn't an aftermarket deal either, this guy bought the car brand new. Who knows? It was a very early GTO, made within the first 6 months of starting production on them.

I like that rhino stuff for a driver car. I may have to try that. I've seen guys go nuts with the under sides of their cars. How good were they when they were new? My 70 chevelle sat outside for 6 years and had thick undercoating on it that was brittle. It saved most of the undercarrage of the car.
