It amazes me that of all of the things I have to figure out for my engine rebuild selecting a new oil pan seems to be high on the list of unknowns. I had considered using a deep sump pan (Moroso 20180) but wasn't really sure if that was over kill or not. But I am having a tough time finding a decent stock pan.
So what do you guys think? Is the deep pan worth it since this is going to be a mostly street car? If not can anyone give a good suggestion on a decent stock pan and where to find it.
It is a SBC 350.....
Thanks.

Don't know what type of use your car will see, but the short block in my 69 is straight out of a 76 Monte Carlo 350...stock pan, 2-bolt block, stock cast crank, stock rods. Only non-stock items are a Melling oil pump and forged pistons. This short block probably has near 300 dragstrip passes and over 20,000 street miles if I had to guess. It's never been apart and still running fine. With my 4.11 gears, I shift at 5800 and cross the finish line near 6000. Best ET/speed was posted this past saturday...13.215 at 102.82. Stock pan seems completely sufficient.
I went down the deep pan route with the first engine I put in this car, and it was totally NOT worth the expense or hassle.
If you go with a stock pan, try a Chevy dealer, or else ask Moroso if 20170 will fit a Chevelle.
Thanks for the info....
I guess I was looking for a recommendation on a stock replacement pan. That Moroso 20170 is certainly one I will look at, but I was more thinking just a plain jane steel pan. I know Summit has one, so I was looking more down that line of product. I can paint it to match the motor so final finish is not a big deal. I just wasn't sure of the quality of those things i.e. warping etc.
Thanks again

If you can find a Chevy dealer willing to give you a wholesale price, you can get a Chevy pan for less than the Moroso 20170. Probably $75 or so. That's what I did.

just make sure the vendor guarantees the pan will fit in a Chevelle chassis. there can be issues around the crossmember.
