: Painted dash pics
BIGMOE65 Apr 3rd, 02, 11:12 AM Hey guys, I finally got my dash painted, Its 65 mist blue metallic, I used bc/cc, PPG dbu base and their 2010 speed clear, both products worked great. I sprayed it with a Devilbiss Finish line 2 hvlp gun. The pics I took dont do it justice but it just looks great. I dont think I have to color sand it at all, theres almost no orange peel. Any recommandations on buffing or waxing would be appreciated. Anyways thanks to all.

JJ'65 Apr 3rd, 02, 11:32 AM Pretty snazzy-looking dash, BIGMOE. My '65 EC is patiently waiting its restification (has been for 23 yr., but tough to do in an apartment). Was the dash originally covered with the foam/vinyl padding? Mine is/was; and its shot of course from sitting outside in Fresno for all those summers. Maybe I'll just have it chromed instead? Do you plan to cover it with something protective? As shiny as it is, it might reflect a little much under certain conditions
BIGMOE65 Apr 3rd, 02, 12:00 PM Thanks JJ, My 65 was a non dash pad car. As for reflection I was just going to use a dash cover on those sunny days. Thanks again.

Jimmy P Apr 3rd, 02, 3:28 PM Looks great! I'm days away from finishing up with my re-painting of my 65 and the interior is next. I have a padded dash though. Your pics kinda make me wish I didn't! My dash is painted black where the pad dosn't cover. Is that the way the factory made 65's with a black interior and padded dash? The exterior is Regal Red.

BIGMOE65 Apr 3rd, 02, 3:49 PM Thanks Jimmy, My freind has a 64 with a padded dash but his interior color is red. He pulled off the pad and welded up the holes. I believe under the pad was red also if thats what your asking. Thanks again.

65elcamino Apr 3rd, 02, 5:09 PM BIGMOE65, Nice looking finish. Just curious why you painted the body strip between the windshield and the cowl panel? I think your signature is wrong, I don't think it will ever be finished. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif There's always something else to change or improve. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif
JJ65, I have a fairly glossy finish, just touch of flattener. I haven't had any problems with glare.
Jimmy P, I'm not too fond of the padded dash myself. I think it looks too much like an afterthought just stuck on top.

stan65 Apr 3rd, 02, 6:02 PM looks great , but i have a question. where do you get the ppg paint codes for the interior colors as my 65 has the aqua interior and would like the paint codes for it thanks.
BIGMOE65 Apr 3rd, 02, 6:22 PM 65 ELCAMINO,Thanks. I painted that strip because I did feel like masking it, it will get repainted when I have the exterior done.
Stan, my interior was originaly aqua also, the color I used was a exterior color, I believe there are no codes for interior colors, at least for my year. All you can do is have them match your interior color using maybe your glove box door(they will put it in the paint matching machine) or use the exterior color and add some flatner in the paint. also you can get the interior color from year one but its cheap lacquer paint, not very durable. buy a can of that and spray a test panel and have them match that
