I will be welding in my floor pan section tonight and was wondering what I should apply between the original floor and the new panel (1" lap) to prevent water penetration from below. I will be painting the entire floor with POR-15 when finished but figure I need some sort of gasket /caulk/sealant at this lap. What is normally done in this situation ?

You could, should, use weld through primer on the parts prior to welding them and a good qaulity seam sealer on both seides of the joint after it is in place. I use a 3m product that I get from my body supply place but you can get it from eastwoods. I use the tube and smooth it out with a finger but they have a brush on type.
Hope that helps
