I have new gaskets on the way, but don't know how to replace them.
I've got the entire vent assembly on my bench, so access isn't the problem.
Do I need to remove the rivet that acts as the top hinge for this window?
It looks to me that I need to remove that, so I can lift the vent window frame out from the bottom of the gasket.
Also, the glass is loose, what do I reinstall it with? Sealer? Adhesive?Caulk? what type? Thanks.

Replacing the gaskets are not hard at all if you already have the frames out of the door. The vent window frame is 3 pieces. there should be bolts or screws on the top and a couple on the bottom. undo those and the vent window frame should come out. the rubber slides off and the new rubber slides on. Make sure you pay attention to how the nut and spring is palced for tehsion on the vent.

Thanks - I'll look closer - I found one screw at one corner, but everything else looked riveted.

Anyone with 64 experience??? This thing is RIVETED - I either bend it by 3" or cut the rivets - I KNOW someone has done this !!!!

I know of only the one screw you mention. This screw holds the top back edge to the top of the angle front edge. You have to remove the rivets holding the top pivot point to let the vent window come up out of the bottom rail or pry the bottom rail down to remove the vent window. I do not recommend bending the lower rail down, it deforms the channel and then cannot be easily bent back to the correct shape.

I did this recently on my 65 El Camino. I drilled out the rivets holding the top pivot point and replaced them with pop rivets after installing the new seals. Use short rivets so they do not interfere with the seal. They will be clamped in place once you reinstall the window frame in the door.

As far as the glass goes, it was basically wedged in the frame with a seal. It sounds like the seal is hard and has shrunk from age. If you can remove the glass completely, clean the glass and the channel. Then put a coating of black RTV in the channel and reseat the glass. Any excess RTV will be squeesed out and can be wiped off with thinner. This should bond the glass and hold very well.
