: Thoughts of a bored bodyman
sevt_chevelle Aug 5th, 03, 11:06 PM Last week I finally picked up a (2)70 BUICK GS graemlins/hurray.gif
Being the Buick fan that Iam, I got to thinking about combining some of the best of each car  to make MY idea of what a 70 chevelle should be.
I wont share all my ideas, but just a few

The first pic shows a few ideas. Remove the stock rear marker bezel that sticks out, flush mount the light to the quarter. The other drawings are just a few thoughts on how to variy the flush mounting of the light. I kinda like the SS cut out myself.
The last pic shows a stock 70-72 BUICK GS hood. My idea is to graft the Buick hood scoops into the flat malibu hood. I thinks it VERY different and trick, outta make those resto freaks squirm!! :D
Have a good one...Eric
Randy Mosier Aug 6th, 03, 2:05 AM Don't forget about the interior. How would a Buick GS console and floor shifter look in a Chevelle? After all, the floors are the same, so the console should bolt right in.
flywheel Aug 6th, 03, 7:24 AM Gosh,if your that bored,I've got an elky that could really use some of your GREAT touch :D :D
MAN,I can't believe I missed ya at the Olathe, car show last weekend :(

LYTEMUP Aug 6th, 03, 1:09 PM I had that same idea about the exhaust about a year ago. I think i may try it. The only problem I see is that the stock exhaust tips might not fit in that valance panel. You might have to go with tips from like a 4th gen Z28 with those rectangular tips.
That hood idea is a great one. What would be even more bad arse, would be a shaker hood like on the T/A or Cuda.
supersport396_2000 Aug 6th, 03, 1:15 PM Exhausts in the qtr panels are fine on mustangs and trucks but with the price were paying for panels and NOS why would you want to go cuttin on them?
sevt_chevelle Aug 6th, 03, 1:26 PM Randy, I didnt forget the interior. In fact am planning on swaping out the entire SS interior that I have and swap in the entire BUICK interior. The dash will fit, have to install the buick mounting system. Not sure on the console, am thinking of going 4 manual w/o console or auto-overdrive.
Rob, you are right the stock tips wont fit inside the valance but I have found other stock looking tips that will smile.gif
Rick, what car was yours at Olathe? I was hard to find as I spent a few hours in mall looking at the OTHER show pieces Olathe had to offer ;) ...Eric
Mike, the exhaust tips would be flush mounted inside the rear valance that bolts on the bottom of the rear bumper not in the quarters. As for why, its all about having different. If everyone owned stock SS396 cars life would be pretty Boring
MikeH Aug 6th, 03, 3:44 PM Eric, I know what you mean, I've thought about things I like from different models and thought about grafting into other cars. I like the idea of the gsx hood cutouts and I've also thought about a pontiac hood tach mounted on the malibu hood, its just so hard for me to alter anything from stock looking on the chevelles, even the plain malibus. :D
supersport396_2000 Aug 6th, 03, 3:53 PM I can't belive you said that graemlins/clonk.gif

Glenn1018 Aug 6th, 03, 5:24 PM Since you have two, I hope you'll keep one a GS.
I'll admit it, that's my favorite A-body.

That's something I'd like to see!
daveseitz Aug 6th, 03, 7:47 PM Eric, I like that car it is sharp. The ideas are sure to cause a problem though. Think about it what if you had a Chevelle and stuck a Buick engine under the hood? Oh never mind someone braver than I did it. :D
sevt_chevelle Aug 6th, 03, 9:45 PM Glenn, am gonna keep the Buicks stock as possible am just using some extra parts that I found along the way. The hood I plan on using is fairly beat up for a resto job but PERFECT for a little slice and dice smile.gif
Michael, not to start a war on chevelles and HOW they should look. But am sorry, as much as I love a thick juicy ribeye it sure does get old eating one day after day after day after day.....
Ill say it again, LIFE would be pretty boring if everyone owned a stock SS396 graemlins/boring.gif
flywheel Aug 7th, 03, 7:31 AM Eric, mine was the green, post 66 over along the side by the motel in the perticipant judging side.MAN,I would have liked to talk to about my Elky project smile.gif

Barista Aug 7th, 03, 10:06 PM I think the marriage of a Buick GS with a Chevelle would be VERY cool. My two all-time favorite cars rolled into one beast is a wild thought. Can't wait to see the fruits of your efforts.
It was good to see you in Olathe. Hope to see you at Westpoint, NE in September. Check out a map, it's probably not more than 2 1/2 hours from you. They give out trophys that are about 4' tall for third place and the 1st place one won't fit in most cars without sticking out a window.

sevt_chevelle Aug 17th, 03, 1:05 AM Rick, I recall that car now(good looking car), thanks Dean. Kinda hard to remeber what post car was yours, never seen so many 66-67 sedans in one spot, hell had to be like 6 of them
I didnt make it mid morning sat, like I mentioned before spent a few hours in the neighboring mall, nice and cool inside. You planning on going to this westpoint show Barista mentioned? Not sure if am going or not but Ill bs with ya even drink your beer :D ...Eric
mkarstm Aug 18th, 03, 10:53 PM hey ragtop!
"plain malibus"? never met one
Randy Boat Aug 23rd, 03, 4:47 PM sevt_chevelle,
You said you are a buick fan.Well maybe you can help me.I was building a 2nd garage for a guy and we got to talking about cars.It seems he has a 70 Buick GS he said he bought new and it has just been sitting for years. He was going to restore it.Well a couple of months ago he passed away. His wife wants to get rid of the car.She wants me to take it.My problem is I didn't see any GS emblems on the car.He had told me it was a 350 4 barrel car.Is this a GS or a Skylark?Could you get a 350 in a 70 GS?The only thing he did to the car was to put on painted mirrors. He had told me the car was completely original other then that. What should I be looking for when I go to look at the car?
Thanks,
Randy
