: Painting engine with BC/CC ?

I just had my paint color matched and bought some paint to do some touch-up work. It is a Dupont Chroma basecoat and low-voc clear. I would like to paint the engine the same color as the car. Will the BC/CC hold up to the heat?

It is a metallic color. So the paint store said they could not do it in a urethane. They also said the urethane will not hold up to the heat. They suggested an acrylic enamel. Problem is that I cannot buy acrylic enamel here in my area. What am I to do?

Thanks,

Tim G

The bc/cc paint will work just fine for your engine. The only place you may see any burning will be at the exhaust crossover under the carb.

DuPont ChromaBase IS urethane. You must have misunderstood the paint store or you need to find another one. Being a metallic has absolutely nothing to do with the type of paint. On top of that, it is an extremely rare color(I can't think of one right now) that can't be mixed in Chromabase, single stage urethane, most ChromaPremier and most Centari acrylic enamel colors from the same standard Dupont mixing bank whether it's metallic or solid color.
