do any of the auto parts stores such as napa or auto zone carry a etching primer in a spray can? i know eastwood does but i hope to find some immediately while dry, sunny weather is still available here in "bama".i'm getting ready to "blend-in" my "glued-in" fiberglass harwood cowl scoop to my factory metal hood and before i apply the plastic filler i need to sand the hood to bare metal around the perimeter of the scoop so the filler will adhere.the evercoat hi-build primer i have isn't reccomended for bare metal and i need to get some primer on the sanded areas before rain moves in monday.thanks guys!p.s.,i guess i could use a temporary get-by of regular spray primer but i hate the thought of removing it later to apply the correct stuff!

Just so ya know etch primer is NOT meant to be sprayed on fiberglass should be avoided. Also NEVER EVER APPLY BODY FILLER OVER ETCH PRIMER.
Doing so can cause a chemical reaction between the etch prime and filler causing the etch primer to loose its adhesion to the metal.

On the other hand you can apply etch on filler. Just remember filler first then etch.

What evercoat HI BUILD primer you have? If you have a poly primer, basically a sprayable "BONDO" I know some have recommendations NOT to be sprayed over etch and some you can apply over etch!! You need to find that out first before you apply that primer if you indeed do have poly primer. Examples would be feather fill and slick sand I believe, I dont know if those products can be applied over etch or not.

If you have a regular urethane primer then yes you can apply that type of primer over etch.

Am sure Napa would carry some type of etch in a spray can. PPG, S-W all market a spray bomb form of etch, but ARE NOT the same quality of regular etch that comes in a can that you need to mix and spray with a paint gun.

thanks,sevt_chevelle!i went over my post and noticed it wasn't clear.my primer says to use an etching primer on bare metal and it(the high build) can be sprayed over the etching primer.and yes,i realize i can't apply the filler over etching primer,i'll apply it over bare metal and then sand it and coat it with etching primer(in certain areas) and then the high build.i'll check my local napa.thanks for the advice,it helped clear some things up!
