Months ago, I ordered some tank sealer from MidAmerica Corvette parts..the catalog does not mention any other necessary products to go with it; however, the directions on the can say to use POR-15 "Metal Ready" to clean the tank before using the sealer. From the description, I'm assuming it is some sort of acid/etching solution. I don't know who might sell POR-15 products in the local area. Is there another similar product that will serve the same purpose?

Thanks in advance for any help...

Vettefella you are right about the metal ready being a acid etch and without it por 15 willnot stick. As for the sealer I bet its pretty much the same thing as POR 15 and needs that base material to stick to. I dont know of any product that you could use to replace the metal ready, its kinda like spraying PPG clear over Dupont base you never know whats going to happen til you try and from what I hear its not a neat deal.

Order the metal ready from their web site at www.por15.com (http://www.por15.com) .

I ran into the same issue the first time I bought the tank sealer at a local swap meet. No mention of the cleaner/prep requirements.

For old gas tanks, you should do the three step process; marine clean, metal ready, sealer.

Thanks guys for the responses. After I had posted this subject, I got my head out of the posterior orifice and typed POR-15 into my search function....ain't the cyber world wonderful?

Made two phone calls and found a source locally for the products. It's a guy that owns a body shop and belongs to the same Corvette club I do, so I should be fixed up now. Thanks again.
