: swapped converters, what will it do?
496malibu Feb 27th, 07, 12:31 PM 461 with 8.1 compression solid roller 666/623 256/260 duration @.50
049 oval ports (bowl blend 2.19 1.88) victor junior 950 hp
turbo 400 ------was a holeshot 3000
now is a PTC 4200
4.11 gears
car is a 78 malibu with full cage and transbrake, previous best was a 11.51 @117 with a 1.64 60 ft.
PTC said 11.teens that would be wishfull thinking, but i think 11.20-11.30...?
Bob West Feb 27th, 07, 1:52 PM Maybe a tenth or two, why is your compression so low. I'd say its doing pretty good for what it is.

Exactly, I think money would be well spent in upping the compression.
Or leave it and put some boost on it.
496malibu Feb 27th, 07, 2:18 PM well, it was a $600 motor carb to pan. all stock and it had closed chambers on it and its a flat top motor. i put my open chambers on it because of running a solid roller and i figured whats the worse that could happen.
blue66 Feb 27th, 07, 2:21 PM Why did you swap heads?
496malibu Feb 27th, 07, 2:40 PM they had the larger valves with the matching springs to the cam and i had just had them freshened. its deffintily lacking in low end power, however it has ran a 10.55@ 128 on a 125 shot its 1st time on the bottle....
67RS502 Feb 27th, 07, 3:10 PM For the $ you spent on the stall you could have gotten some pistons and got the comp up to 10:1 - then it would run 10s even with the old stall. Spend the $ where it counts. MHO
496malibu Feb 27th, 07, 4:29 PM the converter was $350. i have another BBC just needs assembled. but its only going to be 9 to 1. but that better than 8 to 1 (and thats just a guess could be lower)
kjett Feb 27th, 07, 4:47 PM .05-.1 max. I hope I'm wrong, but the 60', 1/4 ET and MPH all jive pretty well. Good luck.
496malibu Feb 27th, 07, 5:51 PM ill post results later in March when track opens. i think 11.30s are there if not a little more. but knowing how it usually goes i probably slowed it down. lol
mr 4 speed Feb 27th, 07, 6:37 PM I think 11.51 @ 117 MPH is impressive for an 8 to 1 454 n/a and it runs mid 10's on spray...NICE!!
I predict a good solid 2 tenths ET reduction with the new convertor
sleeper Feb 27th, 07, 8:54 PM Its hard to be critical as good as you are running. Its also good to know you can run on any kind of pump gas available.
I think you should go mid to high 11.30's. Good luck
