Welcome to the official thread for all information regarding
The 5th Annual A.C.E.S. Northern Regional Car Show
Hosted by the Northern Ohio Chevelle Club (NOCC)

Please bookmark this page as we will be updating the first post with all information on a regular basis
(that way you won't have to search all over the place for updates)
:hurray:

As many of you know, the CanAm club did a GREAT job of hosting this show in Niagara Falls through 2006. This year, the NOCC (Northern Ohio Chevelles Club) is getting the chance to host this show in Hudson Ohio (a bit south of Cleveland). We at the NOCC know that the CanAm show will be a tough act to follow, but we will certainly do our best to live up to what has been built before us. We look forward to working with any and all clubs and individuals who would like to offer help in any way. Please do not be shy! This is a great event and we are looking to make it as enjoyable as possible for everyone involved!

F.A.Q.'s (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q: How Do I Sign Up?
A: You will need to click HERE (http://chevelles.figure-8.com/pdfs/2007Flyer.pdf) to download and print out our entry form. This is in .pdf format and you will need Adobe Acrobat to open this (most computers already have this installed).
Q: I can't download your entry form...what do I do?
A: If you are unable to download and/or unable to open a .pdf file...please contact Carl Nichols at N.Ohio.Chevelles@SBCGlobal.net
Q: How Much Is This Going To Cost Me???
A: Event registration is $25.00 for all three days. T-Shirts are $12.00 each if you pre-order them on your registration form.
Q: Can I Register The Day Of The Show?
A: The only way to make sure that we will have a space for you and your car(s) is if you pre-register by June 20th, 2007. We will do our best to accomodate late registrants but cannot make any promises.
Q: Boy, Getting a Hotel Room In Tropical Hudson, Ohio Must Be Tough (and Expensive). How much is this going to set my wallet back??
A: We brokered our best deal with the Holiday Inn and have secured a room rate of $79.00/night but ONLY if you pre-register with the hotel by NO LATER than June 20th, 2007. If you arrive on Thursday, you will only pay $69.00 (but $79.00/night Friday and Saturday nights). Just call 1-888-403-0031 and mention that you are with the Northern Ohio Chevelles event.
Q: I plan on arriving a day early, do you guys need any help?

A: Since this is a bon-a-fide ACES event, Chuck will definitely be there.
Q: I/My Club would like to help out in some way, who do I contact to find out what I/we can do?
A: Now that's the spirit!!! We would love any/all help that you can give us. Whether it be ideas, pointers, physical labor, moral support, please contact us at N.Ohio.Chevelles@sbcglobal.net (N.Ohio.Chevelles@sbcglobal.net) and we will get back to you PRONTO!
Q: Where The Heck Is 'Tropical' Hudson, Ohio???
A: You mean, you have never heard of Hudson, Ohio??? Hudson is about 30 minutes South of Cleveland and about the same from Akron. It's a nice rural-type area that is very close to a lot of different attractions. You can get directions by going here: Google Maps (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&saddr=&daddr=240+East+Hines+Rd,+Hudson,+OH+44236&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=41.903538,67.851563&ie=UTF8&z=5&ll=41.277806,-81.518555&spn=19.923213,48.339844&om=1&iwloc=addr) (I've already put the Hotel address in it for you....you just need to provide your 'starting' address). There will be plenty of trailer parking available but make sure that you stipulate that on your registration form so we can plan out the parking. If you didn't stipulate that, then contact Carl at N.Ohio.Chevelles@sbcglobal.net with the particulars. If you did stipulate that, then all is good!

I think this question has been sufficiently answered, but at the risk of sounding like a complete idiot, I ask it anyway. This has been brought to my attention by a couple of the folks coming from NJ. Question: The show is on Fri, Sat, and Sun (20th, 21st, &22nd of July) ... Does this mean the show will start on Fri morning at 8 or 9ish, with all/most of the cars out on the show field, or is Fri an "informal, get there and set-up" day, where cars will be coming in throughout the day and the show will actually start on Sat morning at 8:00?

Shawn,

Hello. Sorry I got sidetracked a couple of times. I guess I should have been more descriptive with my previous post.

Originally, I had planned to come up for one day, Saturday. But after some discussion with fellow Central Ohio Chevelle Club members I decided to come up Friday and stay over.

So I called the other day. They (HI) asked me, literally, "why I was staying there?" Which I thought was a strange question in it's self. After all the arrangements were made and I asked for a conformation number. I proceeded to ask for the rate. They quoted me $99 a night. I said, "No", that's not right. Then, they proceeded to ask ME what the "rate" was. Hmmm?

This isn't anything new. This is a game that all hotels play, hoping no one will say anything so they can make a few extra bucks. I run into it all the time especially when there is something going on in the area. I think when the hotels make prearrangements and then start to get booked. They start jacking the rate around. They will also say all they have are suites.

I also ran into this problem with my Nashville reservations. I called the top 3 hotels back in October. NO VACANCY. I called after Thanksgiving and they only had suites for 150. I have since called 3 more different hotels in the area and rates of 89, 99, and 139.
Two years ago I waited until the day of the show and got the best rate. Go figure.

Man, sorry about the rant. You’d think my wife was telling the story. Guess I just needed to vent.

Thanks,
Greg

NVMYMalibu
Apr 12th, 07, 11:22 AM
Greg,

I see what you mean now. Yeah, hotels do tend to do that. They also tend to get the reservation wrong (one King bed instead of two full/queens....smoking instead of non-smoking...etc). We had the same problem the last two years at CB.

I just want to make sure that you did receive the correct rate. If you didn't let me know. I'm going to make sure that the hotel knows exactly what they should be doing with the rate for our event so (hopefully) this doesn't happen again.

Thanks for your input,
Shawn

Another question that has come up from the NJ folks. We are wondering where the actual show will be held. Is it in a lot at the hotel. Is it a wide open asphalt parking lot, or is there grass islands with trees. The reason for the questions is, we usually set up two 12 x 12 tents somewhere away from the cars, if it's a windy/dangerous situation, to get out of the that mid afternoon sun (lets hope it's sun coming down and not......)

Can't really tell from the hotel pics on their web site, and having never been there, just curious as to what the layout is like.

NVMYMalibu
Apr 12th, 07, 3:24 PM
Bill,

The short answer: All cars will be on asphalt and there will be places for tents (although the amount of space for tents MAY be limited). Some or all Vendor spaces may be on gravel.

The Long answer: The show takes place in the entire Holiday Inn parking lot. The lot is large and has several 'areas' that can be used for tents and shade. All cars will be parked on asphalt. Our club plans on laying out the show areas as soon as the weather breaks around here (just had 4 straight days of snow and cold). We will be laying out areas for tents but, to be honest, the tents probably wont be real close to the cars due to the layout of the lot. The good news is that we will have pretty much complete use of the entire grounds to do as we please.

I know this all sounds vague, but until we do a complete measurement and layout for the show grounds, we really can't get much more specific. The weather looks to break in the next week so we should be able to get specifics in the next two weeks. Once we do, we will post them here.

Satellite shot of the entire complex:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&saddr=&daddr=240+East+Hines+Rd,+Hudson,+OH+44236&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=53.564699,81.738281&layer=&ie=UTF8&z=19&t=k&om=1&iwloc=addr&num=10

You should be able to zoom in quite close to see the area. Google has an old picture of the site as all of the construction across the street is long done and is really just a field now (which is where most/all of the trailers will be parked...right in front of a large Harley Davidson Dealer). We will have complete run of just about ALL areas in the Hotel Parking Lot as well as the adjacent building to the south.

Thanks,
Shawn

A NOTE TO EVERYBODY ABOUT MAKING RESERVATIONS AT THE HOLIDAY INN

When placing reservations for this event, it is IMPERATIVE that you mention that you are 'WITH THE NORTHERN OHIO CHEVELLES EVENT'. You need to say this pretty much exactly. I know it sounds petty but that is how it needs to be done.

I bring this up because a few people have been having trouble getting the correct rates for our show. In speaking with the Holiday Inn, they said that the wording is specific. If you use any other wording, the reservation staff may not catch the correct event and give erroneous information/rates.

If anyone has trouble getting the correct rates, DO NOT SETTLE FOR HIGHER RATES. Call back and use the specific wording above or ask for a manager. If all else fails, please contact me by Private Message and I will do my best to assist you.

Thank you for your patience and understanding,
Shawn

Hey Guys,
This may sound like a dumb question, but do you have to be an ACES member to attend this show? Or is that just for Chevella~bration?
Thanks,
Brian

Brian,

While this is an ACES sponsored event, you do NOT have to be an ACES member to attend. The Chevellabration in Tennessee is an ACES members only show. A.C.E.S. is a great club that offers many great benefits, and we definitely recommend that you think about joining.

Thanks,

Thanks Shawn for the info.
I'm already a member of ACES. I have a friend that is in the process of finishing up a 70 Elcamino. He found a link to the show thru an Elcamino site. I thought I'd post the question for him.
I wasn't sure if you were required to be an Aces member for all the Aces reginal shows or not.
He is very interested in going. I'm still riding the fence, and haven't decided yet.
I also sent him a link to this thread, so he can check it out. :D

It will be great to see you Long Islanders out in this neck 'o the woods!

You may want to bring some of those CB'06 videos (or CB'07 if you have it ready by the show). I'm sure there would be a demand for them.

Looking forward to seeing some nice Chevelles and putting some faces to the names of helpfull people I have had the pleasure of dealing with on this site!

We would be happy to have ya' at our show. We have a huge parking area for trucks/trailers across the street in front of a large Harley Davidson dealership (who is also a show sponsor) so parking your trailer will be no problem at all.

Try to drag some of your club buddies up here too (the more the merrier).

We are still working on this issue - Our # 1 option fell through. Where ever we end up parking - I will personally be looking after parked cars with Joe (VP of our Club ) and my son. Joe and I toured the Rock Hall with the VP of Marketing a few months ago so we don't need to see it again. It's a cool place!!

Anyway - We have a couple of options - Parking on the front lawn of the Science Center or in a Parking Lot Near the Rock Hall. We are trying to get the cars grouped together. There will be some sort of parking fee. Sorry, we dont have much pull with the City of Cleveland - and we did try....

Yet another change to our Parking for the Rock Hall. I love the city of Cleveland. :noway:

They moved our Parking location to the Science Center - This is an 4 level lot. It is only a couple of years old - very nice parking garage. We have the 2nd level reserved for Chevelle Parking only. The good news is that this lot is a shorter walk to the Rock Hall. The bad news is that they will charge $5 per car. For those of you driving their tow vehicles instead of a Chevelle (Albert), I have parked my Avalanche in this garage before, so it will accommodate larger Pick Up's from a Height stand point.

271 is still FUBAR but the traffic is barable. For 271 southbound the construction begins at Route 8... just stay in the Right lane to get off at 8. The left lane merges onto the northbound side with 1 lane in each direction. You will be sharing bridges. 271 northbound I'm not sure where the construction begins but I believe its about 2-3 miles before Route 8.

Just south of the 271 interchange Route 8 is chewed up a bit for preparation for paving. About 1000ft after Highland Rd. the northbound and southbound lanes are sharing the southbound side. The lanes are newly paved and there are two lanes in each direction. The lanes will split to their respective sides just before Hines Hill Rd/Holiday Inn.

Hopefully they won't be throwing water down on the roads to help keep the dust down. I've given up washing my DD as it's pointless.

Route 8 Northbound from 76/Akron is all good. No construction or major road hazzards. Just watch out on the "freeway" part of Route 8 as the Police have some very creative places to hide.

Since I live about 5 minutes from Summit I'll meet you guys there. If anyone wants to see my '69 project in its current state I'll be willing to "show" it at my house.

See you all soon.

Hey Andy,

Thank you very much for the kind words. I know things got a bit dicey at times but we did our best to make things right. Believe me when I say that next year, there will be PLENTY of room for everyone and we will turn the organization up a notch or two.

We had an absolutely great time and it was our honor to be involved in an important event like this. Without great participants and cars, the show would not have been nearly as succesfull as it was.

We are busy compiling our pictures/videos into one place so that I can place them all on our website for everyone's enjoyment. Conversely, if anyone has pictures of the event that they would like to share, please host them and send me an email with links so that I can download them and host them on my site. PLEASE DO NOT email the files to me as my mailbox will not handle huge amounts of files.

Look for a thread recapping the show and the extracurricular activities, as well as links to pictures and videos, in the next few days.

Thanks!

Shawn

Yeah, it was great to finally meet you too, the funny thing is that I thought I recognized your car before I knew who you were, she sure is STUNNING  :D I wish there would have been more time to hang out by the car, but there was just too much to see & do (good problem:D)

And a BIG thanks on the congrats, to be honest it was the biggest honer I could have asked for just to place in that unbelievable line of 69 Chevelle's, it was such a pleasant surprise

My only regret is not grabbing a room so I could hang out all weekend, but unfortunately, the kids baseball season is still plugging along and took up a lot of my "bench racing" time.. Oh well, at least I know better for next year

I met so many folks from Team Chevelle that I have spoken with for years and never really met face to face ( some are UGLY too.. he he..) and I made some new friends.. The weather could not have been more PERFECT!! anytime my car is on the showfield long after the official show is over, you know the threat of rain is 0%.. I pulled it in the trailer at 8:30 pm Sat. night!! You guys done great.. some things will need fixing and tweaking, but an open mind and open ears will take care of all that! Start looking for a bigger venue cuz yall out grew this one right out of the Gate!!

I remember some certain guy from the Can Am Club guy saying....

"If they dont pull over 200 cars next year, I'll eat my lifters! ;)"

Well here is the count from my perspective...

Total Entries 168
Club Cars 12
Display Cars 4
Chevelles in Hotel Parking Area 15
Total 199

We had a nicely detailed frame from a 1966 SS Chevelle.

We also had a blast at the show. The weather was great and we got to see many old friends and made some new ones. This will defiantly be on my schedule fro 08. The show planning was top notch. The only problem us " out of town folks " had was getting home. It's a 9/10 hour drive with the mandatory fuel, food, bathroom stops. Then through in the traffic and we get home too late. Next year we may have to leave early Sun morning if many of us are going to get to work Mon morning. Our suggestion, from those of us who travel far, is to have the awards on Sat evening, along with maybe a dinner of some sort. This would change the cruise plans for Sat, to where ever it might be in the future, but you might also have more attendees than Sun morning. It would make it much easier for us to get home. I understand this will be the procedure at the Sturbridge Mass. show in a few weeks. Just a suggestion to take a look at next year.
Hers are the NJ guys trying to get thru the Delaware Water Cap on Sun evening.

Doing the awards Sat. evening in that banquet room where they were doing the reverse raffle and had some light food fare would have been great... we all would have stayed the night, but could have left as early as we wanted Sunday am. Great suggestion guys. I cant believe it is Wed. and we are still talking about this. We are currently sending Thank you letters out to all of our sponsors. The Rock Hall was really happy with the turn out! I am thinking of a much more relaxing drive through the Cleveland Metro Parks for next year or we could do the Science Center which is next to the Rock Hall. They show some pretty cool movies in the Omni Max Theatre. Downtown is usually dead on Saturday afternoon when the Indians are not in town or the "Dew Games". That is why we picked that time for the cruise. A Friday Night Cruise would kinda rule out Downtown Cleveland because of rush hour traffic. Sunday morning around 9AM ish might be good for a cruise downtown for those of the folks who wanted to stick around.

I really like the idea of a Saturday afternoon awards ceremony but I was up until 2:30 in the morning helping count ballots and putting together a script for the awards ceremony. It will go a lot smoother now that I know what the heck needs to be done and how to do it. I bet if we could wrap up voting by 3pm we could have the award ceremony by 7 - 8 ish.

Dont count on this being in the same place unless they rip that building and tennis courts out for us next year. (And that might happen) I hated jaming all your trailers in like that and there was not enough room for the Chevelles that came. As promissed, we took care of everyone that was pre-registered but that meant a few people that showed up that morning had to park in the back with our club cars.

Of course, this is me shooting off my mouth. I have over a dozen other hard workers to run this by. Keep the suggestions comming. We are going through our surveys also.

Another option, to consider, is since the majority of the cars were there on Fri, make it officially a 2 day show. Fri, and Sat. Then have the voting on Fri afternoon. You would then have more time to count the ballots for a Sat evening awards ceremony. Thats how it's done at Chevellabration. That allows the out of town folks and entire day (Sun) to travel.

Sure am glad everyone had a good time. I've put more pictures on our club site (http://chevelles.figure-8.com/recent.html), but I still have more to come. If you checked the "Participant Shots" earlier, I have added around 80 more this afternoon. I finally got the A B and C cameras loaded. That makes 229 pictures on that list! Those are the really fun ones since they were taken by YOU participating in the show. I'll still try to get the "Photo List" of cars on soon, but my schedule is kind of goofy right now so it may take some time.

Can anyone help me get in touch with this guy? I've looked all over and can't find the card he gave me. He was visiting some of the folks at the show, so I'm sure someone knows him. Any help would be appreciated.

can something be put on the ballot about voting on the quality of the CAR and not the COLOR?

66 MYSTERY CHEVELLE
Aug 2nd, 07, 6:13 PM
:D:D

Yeah.. right Donnie... that is exactly why Participant Voting has its flaws.. it is just that.. NO RULES VOTING!! Vote for whatever car trips your trigger.. If more Clubs/Venues take on the task of instituting a Duel Voting format.. where any participant gets to check off whether he wants his/her car Participant Judged or POINT Judged ( Yes.. I said those two words ) that is when you may just see quality beating color or any of the other subjective factors that play in participant voting. You then have a show were those who want their cars Point Judged get it and those who don't.. don't!! and everything else stays the same.. I bet we would all still have a ball!! :hurray:

As you know it's a COMPLEX issue.. why, I don't know.. but some think so.

In the end, I still like to think that the cars that win at Chevelle-abration or any other ACES regional with Participant Voting.. are cars that did deserve to win a Top 3 award. Least I I feel that was the case at the Ohio Show. would a few have not won their class if they were point judged on Correctness or Quality?? sure a few maybe, more so in the case of the STOCK Classes I am sure.. but few.
