Help!

Is there a good way to remove these (1966) moldings? I bought a $6.00 dollar tool and it's not doing the job. What have you done without damaging either glass or molding? What piece do you start with? Tricks? The moldings need to be buffed and the glass is perfect. Is this a job for the glass people? Thanks to all that can help!

Thanks again, Doug

Don't know what tool you bought Doug but if it's the right one it should work just fine. There should be a 90* bend at the end of the flat section, then it should taper to a fine point. You need to work that "fine point" section up/down/across the glass under the molding. You should encounter the clips every six inches or so. The pointed end goes into the clip and as you slide it the tapered section should expand the clip and you can pull that part of the molding out.

That's the theory anyway. Good luck.

I have tried this tool for the rear moldings of a 66. The are a lot "higher" than the front ones and you cannot reach the clip in a decent way to lift it of the channel and pull the molding up/off. Perhaps you could bend the end of the tool so it will reach a bit higher ? I have not tried this yet.

Thanks,

The tool mentioned is the one I'm using. The molding fits tight to the glass (touches). I tried to lift it but it's still a tight fit for the tool. I'll keep trying but I have a feeling I will be calling a glass company on Monday.

Thanks again, Doug
