I am restoring a 70 ss that was stripped when i recieved it. my question is, from the rear to the front is two gas lines, one 3/8 main line and one 1/4 return line, the 3/8 line i know goes into the fuel pump, my question is what path does the return line take? Thanks Steve

The 1/4" return line runs parallel to the 3/8" feed line, and even gets held down in the same frame clips. The correct fuel meter (sending unit) has two fittings on it, one 3/8", and one 1/4". The fuel pump also has two fittings on it, same sizes. Use an AC Delco pump. They're cheap, and they fit. If I remember right, the number you need is a 40727.

The 1/4" line is a fuel return line. Some portion of the fuel is bypassed at the fuel pump and returns to the fuel tank. Flow keeps fuel in the lines from getting hot and boiling. Boiling fuel=vapor lock
