i am re-wiring entire car with a painless harness and i am almost to the point where i should be able to turn the engine over. the only wires i have left are my nss and nss to starter solenoid. i am extremely new to this whole thing and dont much care for anything with wires . my haynes manual doesn't tell me which wire goes to which plug and neither does the painless manual. also i have a poorly converted cloumn to floor shifter thanks to the last owner. i assume that the nss is at the base of the column but i have no real clue. please somebody help i just wanna get my car goin. thanks david

Info on car is needed. Check the manual or you can even see whats going on by using a catalogue from one of the vendors. Mine was a 70 auto, it has one on the base of the coluum. With a manual you need a rod that connects from the trans up into the steering wheel, I just modified the neutral safety switch wiring and do it with a switch when I need the reverse lights. Eventually I will do it the correct way . PRIORITIES........... so many things,,so little cash.. sound familar.. good luck phil

if you just want to start the thing and don't care about the safety switch, just tie the 2 wires together.
if you just want to know which way the plug goes on the switch- it doesn't matter. just jam it on and away you go.
but a little more info would be good- year and type of car.
auto or manual trans.
column or floor shift.

The factory NSS is on the column, but you only can use it if the linkage from the trans to column is still hooked up. When you shift the floor shifter the base of the column should turn, if not, then linkage is missing. Most aftermarket floor shifters have a NSS and reverse lamp switch.
