: Forest Green (48)
MadMarv Mar 8th, 04, 4:23 PM Anyone have a link to where I can see what this color actually looks like? Like a well-painted car taken in a good photograph, or? It's like going to a car show and seeing lots of blue and white 70 chevelles, but there is only one fathom blue, and quite a few are not actually that color even though they claim to be.
My LS5 was painted this color originally (forest green), but I painted it fathom blue when it was restored/restified (and this would perhaps be the stupidest part of my future project, would be to strip a world-class (I think) and expensive paintjob for what?) and since I am more and more often considering buying another 70, moving all my modified parts to the new 70 as I restore it, and put the LS5 (match # block, trans, rear, only other formal identification is from GM of canada) back to how it was in 1970.

MalibuJerry350 Mar 8th, 04, 5:51 PM Check my home page. The shots in the parking lot of my workplace were taken a few months after the car was repainted. The color is an excellent match to the underside of the trunk lid which is still original. The paint was PPG Deltron acrylic enamel with a urethane hardener.
MadMarv Mar 8th, 04, 6:06 PM Thanks!
Now I just have to imagine it with some stripes. I am trying to make sure its not a soft green, but more of a dark/hard green with something of a gleam to it.
I suppose I could deviate some from the forest green formula of 1970, but, what fun would that be..
I've got a numbers matching '70 SS, with build sheet, POP, etc. that's forest green/green bucket interior, LS 5, 4 speed. It was repainted in the mid 80's and needs it again. I'm having a frame off done soon and have decided to change the color to Tuxedo Black/Black.
I tried to sell it before deciding to have it re-done and was only able to get about 2/3 of its real value - in my opinion - because of its color. I can't tell you how many people I talked to who politely said they weren't interested any longer because of its color combo. It got to the point where I felt like I had to apologize for it.
As someone once told me, it reminds you of a 70's shag rug green -- a darker medium green shade, not a real deep dark metallic green that would truly be beautiful with white stripes.
I saw a freshly done forest green LS 6 at Chevellabration last year and, although it looked a lot better than my car does at the moment, it really didn't turn me on at all!
I know I'll sacrifice some originality (a deduct in value)for making the change from the paperwork, but IMO, I'll more than make up for it in desirability! Nothing like a show quality black on black, and I'll have a ball driving it to boot!
And besides, I won't have to listen to poeple say Oh.....It's green. :(
Just my .02
Andy
MalibuJerry350 Mar 8th, 04, 9:50 PM The Forrest Green metallic has a nice look, especially in the sun. Plus, how many red or blck Chevelles do we need? tongue.gif I've lived with the color for almost 34 years now, having repainted it in 1998 and, if I repaint again, will keep the same color. ;)
Buzzbomb Mar 8th, 04, 9:55 PM Yea, nothing like Resale Red, HideBondo White, or Y'allComebacknow Yellow to get the blood pumping (all nice colors, BUT Cmon- dare to be different, maybe??). If I can count on one hand how many Blue or Black Chevelles (or ANY muscle car for that matter) Ive seen at shows or burger joints, my hands would have'a lotsa fingers.
IMHO, Green is an AWESOME color for a muscle car- especially with stripes. Its classy, and looks fast to boot. Just my ..0000000000099 cents.
Dave Mar 8th, 04, 11:46 PM I had a forest green with white stripe malibu. And that's what I'm going to paint my new one, I think it's a awesome color. Dave
Keith Tedford Mar 9th, 04, 2:24 AM You might want to check out the dark green on the new Chev and GMC trucks. Might be just what you want.
rbarnes Mar 9th, 04, 10:02 AM I currently have two 69 SS Chevelles one is garnet red with med red interior and the other is drk green metalic with med green interior. I'm selling the red one, can only afford one. I like the green one alot better. The med green interior is a love /hate thing, some like it, some hate it. I like things that you dont see to often. I'm not to worried about the resale. If you like the color that you have on it just leave it and enjoy. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Super70 Mar 9th, 04, 12:44 PM Madmarv,
I've got a great set of pics of a 70 SS Chevelle forest green (48) with white stripes (10) on my computer @ home. I will try to get them loaded ASAP for you to see.
Jawez Mar 9th, 04, 1:49 PM MadMarv
My 72 SS is Forest Green from the factory. Just check my signature. Or my web page (http://members.shaw.ca/jamiebett3/chevellepg1.html) pages 6,7,and 8 of the web page have the new paint.
Cheers
Jawez Mar 9th, 04, 1:55 PM One more thing,
The pictures on my website were scanned. I now have a 4M pixel digital camera which I can take a couple shots if you want. I am currently doing a frame off restoration but I could take a pick of the hood if you like. The white Stripes with the green look awesome. I have had a lot of compliments on the colour.
Cheers
Sorry. Didn't mean to offend anyone. I guess I could have been a little more diplomatic in expressing my views. Just relating a painful personal experience.
I have another car too, a 70 fathom blue/white convert that I like alot! I got the blue car after the green one and personally like the green even less now.
But Hey .... It's a good thing that we don't all like the same things!!
Sorry again.
Andy

SSteve Mar 9th, 04, 9:40 PM Here are some pictures of forest green with white stripes. The paint is about 16 years old in these pictures.
My Chevelle (http://www.members.shaw.ca/skaukinen/skaukinenweb.htm)
70velle_basketcase Mar 9th, 04, 9:46 PM My 70 in restoration is also 48-48 green. I looked up the paint codes for 2000/2001 Corvette Bowling Green. I love that color green and think it will be a great fit to the orignial shade. Give it a look, the way I confirmed the color was to order a paint touch up tube from GM for that model vette. Worked great........will be ordering the paint very soon.
Super70 Mar 10th, 04, 11:54 AM I believe the pics I may have had access to are pics of SSteve's car. I think that the forest green paint on this car is absolutely stunning (and he said that paint is about 16 years old. Amazing shine on this car!) I too have never been a fan of green colored cars, however SSteve's car looks awesome.

MadMarv Mar 11th, 04, 8:59 AM Thanks for the help and pictures everyone, lots of good feedback. The green isn't all that bad of a color, I'm going to keep my eyes out for green ones at super chevy to get a good look.
Thanks
Matt

greg2001 Mar 14th, 04, 7:56 PM Forest Green is actually a really good color on a 1970 Chevelle. It is a color that was very typical of the time, and when combined with white stripes really looks good. I have a LS6 that is Forest Greem, white stripes, and saddle (tan) interior. Ther combination looks really good.
