: performer vs. stock intake

My 307 has already been changed to a stock GM 4bbl intake manifold w/q-jet. I'm thinking about bolting on an Edelbrock performer intake. Does anyone think it would make much improvement? I know most don't think much of the 307, but mine is running fairly strong now and for the time being is the best I've got. thanks for any comments.

In and of themselves they are not much of an improvement over chevys stock 4 barrel intake. However as part of a package i.e. cam, hedders etc. they come into there own. The thing is it will go on the next small block you build as you collect componets for a incresed performance engine. You do save some weight and they are easyer to clean.

The performer intake will add roughly 20+ hp*
to your stock engine. On my 81 Z/28 350 the Performer, plus a Crane cam put my ZEE into the low 14.30's, after running consistent
15.20's with just the addition of headers.
My trap speed went from low 90's to high 90's
and the difference was in the torque. After
a few runs I short shifted to 4,800 rpm (th350 with 3.42 posi) and I started ripping
off 14.30 runs. I also had to leave off the
rubber gasket on my air cleaner as the Performer is a high rise intake and my hood
would not close, it had the "air induction"
hood. *I quote 20+ hp as this is what I've read through a Monte SS build up of a L69
HO 305 that came in these 83 to 88 SS's. I
never ran the car with just the intake change
as I added the Crane Blazer cam (288/450 lift), at the same time, but I'm sure the Performer alone will give you a bit more over
the stock 4bbl intake. It's a good all round street intake. The 307 is still a small block
Chevy, and respond's to the right matched part's...
