I can take a pic if needed but they are brass looking pieces that are held on by two screws. they are the size of a half stick of gum. there is one on each quarter panel door jamb. what the heck are these? thanks.

They go on the jamb and then there is another one on the door it's self. I think one of them is plastic (my car has been apart so long I forget!)

They help the doors from hitting the jamb over bumpy roads and if you do something like jack it up from a corner. The frame does flex a LOT on these cars.

They're called "door wedges". I've seen them in the repo catalogs, but only up to 68...I don't know what is different about them. MARTINSR is correct, they keep the door "tight" because of the flexing. One piece is brass, the other is steel. The steel piece goes on the door, the brass piece goes on the jamb, and they "wedge" together to keep the door tight.

I found a set on ebay, and I only needed one, but I already sold the other one to a fellow TC'er.

They are the same for all A-Body convertibles, so you may be able to find some around.

I have not seen these on my 69 Malibu, but it is possible that during the previous 33 years of it's life that they were removed or not reinstalled after a repair. This concerns me because I just painted it 3 weeks ago and have started reassembly of the interior, lights, etc. My guess is not having these can result in body damage and/or nasty noises during the flexing someone mentioned.

Is anyone out there pretty confident that these were on the 69 model? If so I will have to start looking for them before driving the car to avoid problems. YearOne probably has them, they seem to have this oddball stuff.

First, they are definitely on the 69 convertible. Second, they are needed as the car flexes more than you might imagine.

yep up to 72 convertible as well. but only convertibles. if it is a conv then you have of had them. there will be holes where the screw went and the door jam interior welt strip will have a notch in it to clear the brass wedges.

Yep, the holes are there but I don't think the parts were in place when I disassembled the car last fall. Anyway I will find a set and put them in my 69 convertible - thanks for the posting as I wasn't aware of these.
