I've got a heavy 72 Chevelle with a mostly stock suspension other than airbags and poly bushings. I'm wondering if it would be worth the money to buy some 10" wheels (Prostars) to put these slicks on. They are 28X10.5 stiffs and are on 8" now. I've read on here where a 10" will give a better footprint. I have a 3500 converter being built (currently 2800) and I'm hoping to improve my 60ft by a few hundredths. I'm afraid the new convertor will expose my suspension weaknesses and was wondering ig the wheels would be worth the money. Thanks.

Danny,
If footprint increase is all you're after, why not just run a 30" tall slick? You've got plenty of gear for one and a radial slick would be perfect, IMO.
Works for me.

Bill, you may be right. But before I went to the 28s, I was running 29X11 Goodyears. I improved my 60ft by .06 and my 1320 by .15 when I dropped to the 28". Maybe the convertor will change that. I don't know. I should also point out that these were used 29s vs brand new 28s. You've got me to thinking now though. I've got a set of 29.5X10.5 M/Ts that I've never mounted. With a looser convertor, that might be the combination I need with the 4.10s. Thanks for your input and any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Where do you run? Carolina?
If so, I run 10.5x30x15 Hoosier slick radials on 10x15" Welds with a 5.5" BS. You're welcome to try them if we ever meet up there.

Bill, thanks a ton. I really appreciate that offer. Yes, Carolina and Darlington are the only two 1/4mi tracks around. I'm going to Carolina in a couple of weeks. I just mounted a set of M/T street radials that I want to compare to my slicks before I pull the transmission to swap convertors. Did you have to modify your wheel well (fr to rr) for those 30s? I've rolled the lip on mine already. Thanks again Bill.

Danny,
Just a slight roll on the upper portion of the outer lip...maybe a section 12" long. The wheel well molding was rubbing in that area.
Drop me a line when your headed to Carolina...I'll make the trip.
