Recently got the words Cowl Induction for my hood. My question is this... How do i measure where to put them. Also, how much of a space do I leave between the words? It is a 2 in. cowl hood if it matters. Thanks a lot.

I'm reasonably sure that the correct location can be found in an assembly manual. I can scan the page from my 72 manual and send it to you. Probably be tomorrow before I can get to it.

Is yours a glass hood? The steel hoods have the holes predrilled.

OK ..I went out to the garage and measured mine. The N is 5&1/4 inches from the rear edge of the hood There is 1/2 inch between the L & I. It is centered on the rise in the hood. These are measurements from a GM cowl hood...

Your email address is not in your profile. And the assembly manual pic won't help anyway. Apparently boomhaur is correct - the factory hood has predrilled holes. No dimensions/location info is given. Sorry I couldn't help.

Chris,
I presume that you DO NOT have a CI hood, but just the domed hood. Right? ALLLLLLLLLLLLLL CI hoods (even the repo CI hoods) come with the pre-punched holes for the letters. You REALLY, REALLY need to locate a buddy with a CI hood and make a side by side comparison/measurements. Otherwise, if your letters are off just a little bit, it is going to be obvious. I once helped a good friend install COWL INDUCTION letters on his domed hood. We used WIDE masking tape on my hood to create a template, then transferred the tape to his domed hood to properly position the letters. Locating the holes for the little pins is critical, they're NOT in a straight line!

Thanks a lot Tom, but i have one question. The difference between the domed and CI hood is that the CI hood has the cut out for the door, right? I once heard that the CI hood just had ducting from the cowl of the hood, even with out the door. So now i am really confused. graemlins/clonk.gif Now the hardest part is finding someone with a Chevelle around here to measure it with. Thanks again.

Chris,
VERY probably, when BOTH the domed and CI hoods were made, the outer skins were all stamped from the same die. Then, some of the hoods were additionally stamped/punched for the opening for the rear door, the hood pins and the holes for the COWL INDUCTION letters. Next, the underhood bracing was added and spot welded, and last, the ducting was added and spot welded. Whereas, the domed hood only got the bracing WITHOUT ANY ducting OR holes punched. From the picture which you emailed, I'm guessing that that your hood was just the domed hood with a fabricated duct. BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT, if your hood has openings/holes, WHICH APPEAR TO BE FACTORY openings, then maybe someone removed the factory duct and added a bigger, fabricated duct. The only way I could tell for sure what you have would be to see it in person. You wanna run it by the house tonight for me to look?
