What color should my power steering box be?
(72ss) Gloss, semigloss, of flat black.
Thanks.

The correct colour for your box should be gloss black. The original power steering box end cap was natural aluminum.

If you're talking the steering gear box, I have to disagree. Most I've seen are natural cast iron color, with the top cap natural aluminum, and the end cap natural steel.

We all know that there is no absolute rule when it comes to what the factory did, but i had occasion to view an unrestored `71, 70,000 mile SS last year. The steering gear box was black. The boxes were the same for `71 and`72. Having rebuilt two boxes including my`68 SS396 gear box, i can tell you that both end caps were aluminum. If you read Paul Herds` Chevelle restoration guide, it says the boxes should be black as well.
Having said that, i`m sure there were some boxes that left the factory natural. I`ve even seen some gold anodized, but these were replacement pieces.
