I am building a 69 13637 malibu and have noticed that the trim surrounding the vinyl top is on my car, but no vinyl top came with it. If the trim is there does that mean that it originaly came with a vinyl top?

Not necessarily. The car MAY have had a factory two-tone paint scheme. I had a '70 Impala that was like that. The chrome trim was basically for looks, to separate the two colors.
