This actually concerns my MOPAR, but perhaps it has application to Chevelles too.

The factory molding that extends full-length along the sides of my '72 Plymouth has loosened and I have removed several sections. This stuff seems to be some kind of plastic/rubber stuff with shiny mylar covering. It apparently was stuck on with some kind of adhesive at the factory. What can I use to remove the remants of the adhesive and molding along th areas where it has loosened? I would like to avoid damaging the paint much as possible.
Thanks.

Use 3M general purpose adhesive remover. Availalbe at any paint shop, it will take off just about anything (except the paint)

I use an 3M tape erasser. It's ruber wheel about 3in in dia when new, installed on a air die grinder. I see that Harbot Freight has em. not 3M brand and can't speak for there lonengevity. But it's the only way to remove the tape from the body or the badges/moldings/trim and not cause damage.

I'd be wary of using Goof-Off, as it may also remove the paint.

You may try some Acryli-clean (prep sol) and see if that will do it. It does good job at getting bugs, tar, wax and grease off of paint. It might work and it shouldn't harm anything.

Goof-off and products like it will remove the paint if you leave them on for more then a few seconds.
