I intend to install my aluminum heads very soon on a 454. I already have Fel-Pro gaskets #1027. There did not come some kind of instructions with them. My tech books say with composition gaskets you have to retorque the head bolts after warm-up. Torque for long bolts 75 ft/lbs and 65 for the short ones. I donīt like this because first I have to remove some rocker arms and guide plates in order to get to the bolts below the valve cover, also have to remove the exhaust manifold to reach the four lower bolts. Second is I probably will break the thread seal. So is there a way around this retorqe procedure except with PermaTorque gaskets (FEL-8180PT2)?

pretty sure the 1027 are preflattened and don't need retorquing!

I built my 454 with aluminum heads and that gasket. I bothered to check the torque after putting some miles on it. As I recall none of the bolts needed any adjusting so you may be fine without retourqing. I once had the water temp up to 270 when a belt came off. I checked head bolt torque after that, again no problems.
