I have been saving to purchase 2 new quarters from goodmark, however I was talking to a gentleman who restores cars in the northern Ohio area, he has recommended a company called Tabco, or Mill Supply, website rustrepair.com. I am curious if anyone here has ever purchased any parts from here or heard anything? I understand they are using orginal gm dies. I have heard so many great remarks about goodmark that I would hate to try something different without the opinion of this group.

I have some quarters on order thru goodmark and I have used Goodmark fenders in the past. I would say stay with the Goodmark stuff, but be patient. Right now Goodmark does not have any Lefthand quarters for a 70-72 Coupe and hasnt had any for almost a year.

My quarters went on order with year one almost 8 months ago (Goodmark is thier supplier). I have been keeping in touch with Goodmark ever since. It seems that they have a contract with a Detroit sheetmetal supplier that also does High volume work for the big three. Problem is, small volume work for people like Goodmark takes a back seat, and as a result my panels have been on back order for several months. (Right side got stamped and delivered to distributers last month) The left side is probably not to far behind.

I dont know weather I should be angry at the delay or if I should be happy that someone is still making a quality repo part that I need.

I would guess the issue with the shortage of Goodmark quarters is die problems. It takes significant time to repair, test, and polish dies. Production of the panels takes a short time. An auto panel stamping facility can change a die in less than an hour, sometimes 15 minutes, and run 3000 pieces in 2.5 hours. I would think a stamping company could make a run and a significant profit if they didn't have to do anything but stamp the panel on the owners dies.

Hey Ed, to be honest, I really dont think these small companies are using transfer presses for these small runs of parts. If they are using old style toggle presses it takes considerably longer to change out all the dies than with a "B" or "A" size transfer presses. I also heard that Goodmark just runs these parts when they get a certain number of orders.

On the Die subject, I would bet its the old multi/die stamping . like Rough cut/form
trim/form and final shape.
A set up time in a 300ton press with one die would be about 10 man hours.
So if it's a three die system. it's aprox 30 man hours in set up alone
My bet it would be about $20,000 in set up fee's alone maybe more. MY gesstamations are dated from the early 70's
