can any of you clear something up for me. whats the diffrence between powder coat and paint? i know what each are, but is it basicly the same thing or are they two completely diffrent things,do they serve the same purpose, how are they different, most importantly can you consider powder coat a form of paint? any help will be useful thanks

I am certainly no expert, but have painted many cars and been involved with powder coating systems at GE for electric motors. My understanding is that it would be considered a form of paint, but I am not certain why it is so much harder than standard paint. That may just be the result of the chemical makeup and they can't develop spray paint to provide the same results. This may also be a myth, but it sure seems to be a much harder surface with less gloss.

Powder coating is also baked at approx. 400 degrees. Powder coating as well is avl. in almost any finish and colour you can imagine, gloss and semi-gloss.
With my experience with powdercoating, I will attest to its' durability. It is tough stuff.
The only downfall however is that other than blasting or chemically stripping the part that you're coating, there is no other prep that you can do. In a nutshell, if the part you send in is badly pitted, the coating will only fill the pitting so much.
