: What type of primer on Aluminum ?

Took off my headlight buckets today, got all the anodizing off and buffed them up. They came out really nice.

However, as expected, the oven cleaner ate the black paint from the inside area of the buckets. What primer to use on this aluminum and it will need to be in a spray bomb?

Appreciate your help.

Don, no need to primer those. Just scuff them with fine steel wool or a scotch brite lightly and you can puff can them with krylon or similar if that is all you have. Make sure you clean them good with rubbing alcohol or a paint prep to get any of the cleaning residue off.

You're a good source as usual Micky, thanks.

Don, are you going to clear coat your newly polished parts?? I just went out and bought some cotton buffs and all kinds of buffing compounds. Iv'e been messing around with some old grill extensions and I am really pleased with how nice they shined-up. But I wonder if you need to clear over them to prevent reoxidation of the aluminum? I read that POR's glisten PC is good for this type of application!! Mike M22

No clear coat for me Mike, just some good aluminum polish and reapply as necessary, hopefully that will be enough.
