I've decided on a "take the bull by the horns" approach and will attempt my head and cam swap on my own. All I need at this point are some gaskets.

What is the best book I can buy to help me with this? I have plenty of tools for the job, just lack the know-how. I would say that I am pretty mechanically inclined. I have read the process on this website time and time again but haven't ever actually done the work myself. The things I am most concerned with are proper head bolt torque sequence and getting the intake manifold buttoned up tight.

I will be pulling the motor as I figured this would be easiest. Also, gives me a great excuse to put a new (and improved) converter in.

its pretty strait forward I woudl just buy a book on rebuilding small blocks and take what you can from that. We will be here if you have any questions

Make sure that you remove the fuel pump and the plate it is bolted to and then the fuel pump pushrod. That usually messes up noobs. :)
