: New toy (guitar): Epiphone Elitist LP standard
thunderstruck507 Feb 15th, 07, 4:00 AM Well, I've been wanting one for a long time and a good deal came up at a time when I could manage to let go of my first guitar (black Epiphone SG with Angus Young pickup). So today my new toy came in and I'm loving it a lot.

Johnny O Feb 15th, 07, 8:20 AM Very nice!! Congrats. How are the Epiphone guitars? I played quite a bit back in the late 60's and early 70's, and Epiphone was around then, I had one for awhile. But it seems like I had the only one around, lots of my friends never heard of it. And honestly, this is the first time I heard it mentioned since then, I think! At any rate, enjoy it. John
Maybe you'll be doing this soon...

thunderstruck507 Feb 15th, 07, 1:02 PM The Epiphones are now owned by Gibson as their budget line. The regular Standards and Customs are pretty nice and if you find the good ones all around quality instruments. They're made in Korea or China depending on the year.
The Elite/Elitists line is handmade in Japan. They use much better woods and materials. They also have Gibson pickups and electronics and the attention to detail allows them to rival the high end Gibsons made in the USA and some of them are even good enough to rival the Gibson custom shop.
The kicker is since they use paint instead of laquer and Japanese labor, the prices are still reasonable. This guitar new could be bought for $1100, buying used gets gets the price down to $650-800.
NiteOwlNY Feb 15th, 07, 2:08 PM I have an Epi Riviera, bought it about 11 years ago and I absolutely love it.... Kicker is my Gibson J185 which was about 4 times the price of the Epi needs to go in for service because the Binding is coming off....
72 malibu Feb 15th, 07, 4:36 PM Nice guitars! That finish is natural sunburst on the LP, or just natural?Like that amp as well, I have a DSL100 head and a full stack. Look out neighbors!
SG is cool as well , those have a fast neck on 'em
thunderstruck507 Feb 15th, 07, 10:58 PM its a heavily faded sunburst as far as name, but I would call it an amber burst
both have slim taper necks that are very comfortable to me, the LP is slightly chunkier but just barely, you have to play them back to back to notice
