Has anyone had their 68-72 El Camino painted recently in basecoat/clear coat ?? What brand did you buy ?? Could you tell me how much supplies you bought to do a total repaint including inside the door jambs and inside the bed ?? Im going to be stripping down my Elky to bare metal this summer and apply Epoxy Primer,Surface Primer,Basecoat/clearcoat in PPG. not sure on a color yet but I think it will be a metallic color in either a blue, turquiose,or maroon. I wonder if a gallon of basecoat when mixed,if that would make enough to do the entire Elky including door jambs and bed ?? Is Dupont any cheaper in their basecoat/clearcoat than PPG's ?? Thanks, Mark ----------------------------------------------------------------------------1968 Chevelle Malibu 1968 El Camino

I painted my 71 Elky last yr. I would say a gallon of each would be enough. I had to put 4 coats of color on mine because of some sand scratches showing thru or I would have not needed as much. I also didn't paint the bed with paint,I used bed liner spray. Can't say on cost between the two,I only priced the PPG.
Tip.. be sure to have the car final sanded with 400-600 REAL good b4 the base goes on.It shows up ALL the deep scratches...

The color will affect paint coverage, some colors cover in two coats while others I've sprayed have taken up to five, this can make a big difference in how much paint you'll need. Figure on a minimum of one gallon of color for most metalics. Pick your color and have a quart mixed for the jambs, you'll get an idea of how the the paint covers and what you'll need to do the exterior. The bed of an elcamino has a lot of surface area.
