: My truck got wrecked.......
chevelless502 Feb 14th, 07, 10:02 PM My truck got wrecked today and i wasnt even there!! I dont drive it in the winter if at all possible so this wont happen out on the road and as well as to keep it out of the salt on the roads here. Well i come home to find someone had hit it and not left a note or anything. After calling the cops to report it as a hit and run, i get inside to find on my answering machine that a local guy in a semi had backed into it when trying to get out of some snow in the street. He felt and still feels soooo badly. I hate that it happened and i am upset but its hard to be mad at somone that is so upset for doing it. It will fix and no one was hurt so thats the important part i guess.

Bow_Tied Feb 14th, 07, 10:08 PM Sorry about your luck. At least the guy called....
chevguy65 Feb 14th, 07, 10:09 PM The guy in the semi feels bad because he knows if he had stuck around he would have had to under go a bac and urine test.
My guess is he was under the influence of drugs and or alchohol.
Just my opinion, but that is the only reason I know of for a truck driver to leave the scene of an accident.
Question, did he want you to report it or just use his personal insurance?

I have known the guy for over 30 years and none of the above is true. I was at work and he probbaly didnt know how to get ahold of me. He parks his semis down the street from me and has been by the house millions of times. I dont blame him in anyway other than it was just an accident, amd i upset yea i am who wouldnt be but **** happens and it will fix.
He gave me all of his insurance info and had no problem that i had reported it.

CT Mark Feb 14th, 07, 10:27 PM When I was 18 or 19, I came home late one night,,,,out drinking. :beers: It had been snowing. As my friend pulled in the driveway I saw tire tracks going across my lawn and ending at a guide wire for a telephone pole. My Dad's car was parked on our lawn right next to the pole. I looked down by the guide wire and there was a license plate. I glanced at my Dad's car and it looked fine. So I picked up the plate and went to bed. I woke up late morning and my Dad was on the phone and pacing around...looking very pissed. I listened to the conversation a bit and realized that his car had been hit. I went into my room. Grabbed the license plate and told my Dad I was going to make his day. I handed him the plate and told him where I found it. It was one of the few times I remember my Dad really giving me a hug.

Andy,
My apologies to you and to him, it is just that I have seen this before and it sounded exactly the same.
You see law requires them to have those tests whenever they are involved in an accident, no matter how small, or where it happened if they are in a work truck.
DOT mandates it and are very strict about having it done.
Again, sorry if I offended you.
I am glad no one was hurt.

Lol, coming home drunk, only to be rewarded the next day. Luck guy.. Sad thats the only reason your dad giving you a hug... :( I love you! Happy Vday! :hurray: :p
cuisinartvette Feb 14th, 07, 10:52 PM Wow, at least there are some honest people left. Sorry to hear about your truck but it will fix fine as you said.
2 yearsa ago while having coffee on my patio I watched a trash truck sideswipe my truck and leave. Police didnt do anything, trash co. avoided me like the plague. Ins co gave me the runaround. Year and a half plus $3500 later (out of my pocket) I got it fixed. Finally took them to court and got a whopping $2100. Even with a witness I was losing the case badly, judge couldnt believe they would up and leave like that and someone like myself was stupid enough to try to fight it on my own. What a PITA
It was nice to see it all repainted, even got new bumpers put on 'er. Couple months ago I rearended a lawyer with it. :hurray:

According to FMSCA Section 382.303 entitled "Post-accident testing" , the ONLY instances under Federal law that require testing are (1) Human fatality (2)Bodily injury with immediate medical treatment away from the scene. (3) Disabling damage to any motor vehicle requiring tow-away.
Even then, testing is only required if a traffic citation has been issued to the Commercial Motor Vehicle driver in conjunction with the accident. If the CMV driver is NOT cited, he is NOT required by law to be tested.
Now, his COMPANY may have a written policy that is more stringent, but the above is the Federal Law. I have the FMSCA compliance manual and my DAC/USIS drug and alcohol testing and compliance manuals sitting on my lap as I type this.
I own a small trucking company with 11 over-the-road trucks and deal with this stuff every day, including the safety audits.
The way I remember the requirement is this......... " Towed, Treated, or Tits Up, with a Ticket":D
This is just for clarification.:)

You have a big 4x4 truck that you don't drive in the winter.

My truck was hit by someone, no note or anything, not nearly as bad as that though.

Actually a commercial driver only has to get the test after an accident if there has been an injury The picure is of the truck I used to drive, retired now To see more see this link http://www.leverfamilysite.com/glenn's_day_job.htm

JMHO, your insurance co should have gone to bat for you and subrogated the culprit's ins co. That is part of what you pay them for, lazy if you ask me. You shouldn't have had to do anything. In a collision I was involved in years ago, my agent said if the other insured's co didn't pay, I should take it to get it fixed and pay and they would be happy to subrogate for me.

You should see all the huge, lifted, mud tired trucks we have out here in Southern California. They really piss me off because non of them ever see the "snow" or go off-roading. Just a bunch of posers. I know people say its like putting wheels on a car just for looks, but when the bottom of the body is 3-4 feet off the ground (no joke) its over-kill.
If you have it for a legit purpose, ok. But if its just to compensate for a smaller unit, go see a doctor or find a girl with small hands.
End rant.

Mike,
Just curious why you put a 383 FI engine in your chevelle, do you race it everytime you get it out of the driveway or do you take it to the strip every weekend, or maybe its cause your g/f has small hands, and maybe YOU need to go see a doctor for your own small issues??? Why else would you need such a big motor? To each his own.
Ok, end MY rant!! :boxing:

Funny, seems like your 502 is bigger than my 383 and my 383 isn't even built for racing...I have a legit purpose for a 383. Since our old cars are heavy, it needs the torque to get it to move. My old 350 wasn't making enough torque to be efficient so even with the overdrive I was still only getting 13 mpg and its my daily driver (gets kinda expensive) Besides 383 really isn't big anymore, even for a small block.
Oh, and the g/f's hands arn't THAT small
Mike :beers:
Chris R Feb 16th, 07, 3:54 AM So in order to fix that. Would the body shop just replace that box side or just replace the entire box? I would think it would be much easier to replace and repaint another box. Its not like they are difficult to remove. Much easier then welding on a new side right?

I am going tonight to getmy first estimate. There are a TON of trucks that color so i would think could even find one the right color andno paint work would be needed either. I guess we will see.
Andy
cuisinartvette Feb 16th, 07, 10:28 AM You can get a 1/4 for that, think they are $900 from what I remember.
Dave Birdwell Feb 16th, 07, 5:20 PM Yep. Needs a box side, and a tail light. Should be about $2200.00 unless there's damage to the bumper we can't see. I love to change these bedsides, they are pretty easy to do once you get them figured out.

Thats why its called an accident, otherwise they would have named it an 'on-purpose'. Sometimes * Happens, have a beer and enjoy the wekend:beers: . NExt week find a good body guy.
b-man Feb 16th, 07, 9:21 PM new bedside.
All factory welds to be opened.....
Chris R Feb 21st, 07, 5:01 AM Take the 2k and tell them your fixing the truck yourself and find another box and with a bunch of guys, swap them out. Im not sure how the payment side works but I just cant see dumping 2 grand into replacing a box side when you can go out and find another matching box like you said. There are tons of that colored trucks out there.
