I got a call today from the shop that is doing my Sprint. They are having a problem with the rear wheel moldings. The quarters were replaced and now the GM moldings I got from Year One don't fit. The guy said that he has seen this before with reproduction metal and the true GM stuff does not fit right because some of the form being lost from the retooling and that I may have to go with reproduction moldings.
The shop does good work so I do not think he is giving me a line. Does any one have any ideas or ran across this yourself? I tried to look @ old posts but did not find anything.

Thanks in advance.

Yep! I replaced the right rear quarter on my elky with an aftermarket piece and had a problem. I was using repo moldings from NPD which worked fine on all but the repo quarter panel.

After fitting the molding to line up with the body lines as good as possible I ended up having to cut the rear edge of the molding off to make it look right, it was about 3/4" to long.

Unless you are really checking it out closely you don't notice it. Also judging from how well the repo moldings fit the stock sheet metal at the other wheels you'll probably have just as much success fitting the origional moldings as the repo moldings. The only issue I had with the repo moldings on the stock sheet metal was not all of the mounting screw holes matched. An appropriate size drill fixed that problem though.

All I can say is that it is REPRO. You better expect that parts are not going to be perfect. The wheel opening mouldings are pretty easy to reshape to fit the wells. If the car is painted, then it is a bit harder. This should be done after all body work is done and before the car is painted. But if it is painted, you can protect the paint with masking tape till you get the moldings fitted. Take a little of the "stickyness" off the tape by running it through your fingers. That way it won't pull any paint off in case the shop didn't sand it good before the paint.
