I finally broke down about this year and bought a REAL spot weld driller. I had heard of these magic tools for years and just couldn't justify the cost (about $450.00). Well I went to work at a shop where the owner had one. I used it and had to own one. I got one and LOVE it. It is a Spitznagel brand and is the highest of quality. As with a lot of air tools now a days it is made in Japan. It has an three different arms with different depth throats. The tool has an adjustable depth cutter. So with a quick turn of the control it will cut through one, two, three or four layers of metal. I have gotten so that I can even cut plug weld holes with it in new metal without damaging the arm by cutting into it. When you pull the trigger the cutting tip moves out into the metal with air pressure. It then cuts with a "Wivco" style flat headed bit through a gear reduction unit. The bits last a LONG time. I have not even changed mine since I bought it and I have cut THOUSANDS of welds with it. It is effortless, doing all the work for you. I have found that by cutting away the panels with a air chisel I can get about 98% of the welds with this tool. I highly recommend NOT to wait like I did to get one if you are doing this work everyday.
