: Help with installing 8 Track Player
BadgerFan21 Feb 13th, 07, 2:06 PM Hi everyone. I was wondering if someone could provide or point me in the right direction for hooking up an 8 track player I recently purchased for my 1969 SS chevelle. Any directions/diagrams/pictures would help greatly.
Thanks,
Tony
:beers:

undee70ss Feb 15th, 07, 4:57 AM Is it a factory or a aftermarket 8 track player?
pjkemo Feb 15th, 07, 8:52 AM Do you have the bracket and the special ash tray for the 8-track?
chevguy65 Feb 15th, 07, 9:08 AM If all your needing is how to hook it up, its pretty basic.
You have a hot wire (goes to battery or ignition), a ground (self explanitory), and speaker wires, either 2 or 4, each speaker gets a hot and the other wire from the speaker connects to the single ground wire.
You may have one with a pwr antenna lead, but since you didn't say I will say not.
Thats it.
I have one in my 65, it will be great for car shows etc when you want to show off that nostalgic feel.
Stick in Black Sabbath and run track 4 over and over ;)
BadgerFan21 Feb 15th, 07, 4:36 PM Hi everyone. Thanks for the interest. It is a factory 8 track player. wish I could post some pics on here. The special ash tray is the one that you can pull and slides out towards you, correct? I do have all the brackets also. I have a AM/FM factory radio that I need to install also, so hopefully everything can hook up and sound good. John, thanks for the compliment on the 8 track. me being only 26, I'm totally stuck in the 70's and trying to get my chevelle back to all original. picked up some 8 tracks off ebay, and have them ready to play, specifically pink floyd's Shine on your crazy diamond!

Tony,
This aren't quite as simple as the above posts may indicate. There are different models that were produced that are very "set-up specific". IF you purchased the wrong 8 track player, it will not work correctly and you have yourself a paperweight.
I'm posting again after a long hiatus from Team Chevelle, but even several years ago when building RADIO TECH (www.chevelles.com/radiotech) I put off the specifics on wiring since there is so much ground to cover on these units. They actually interface with the radio on some models/years.
Do you have a model # or good pictures of what wires (and what colors) leave the rear of the unit?

Sorry coppertop for not being quite specific enough, but the ones I have had and installed in my short 46 years have all been 4 wires, hot, right, left, and ground. Oops, had one with a power antenna so I guess thats 5 wires.
With the information given I based my response to that.
Yes some are harder to wire, and it depends on if it is in-dash or not.
Thank you for clarifying!
69ssmike Feb 15th, 07, 9:33 PM I had the MPX am-fm stereo in mine, there were a LOT of wires under there. Here are the radio numbers http://www.chevelles.com/radiotech/database.html
I bought an 8 track guide on E-Bay for mine. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970-Camaro-Chevelle-ChevyII-8-Track-Play-Service-Guide_W0QQitemZ110091674287QQihZ001QQcategoryZ6760 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
BadgerFan21 Feb 16th, 07, 9:18 AM Coppertop,
Do you have an email I can send some photos too? I do have a model number for my radio, but no model number for 8 track player. The player was reconditioned, bench tested, and looks brand new, but I didn't see any model number anywhere. For what I paid for the radio and 8 track, I'm praying I can get them both working.
Thanks,
Tony
