I was watching this movie the other night, and it showed them painting a car a Candy Red color... First they sprayed the car a gold base color, and then the candy red... I was under the impression that Candys were clears with peals in them? Now I've been reading that they are dyes? The base coats should be highly reflective, like a silver, gold, or pearl white? I also saw somewhere that you can buy the dye and make your own "kandy" paint... If so, where can I get these dyes? I found 2 gal. of Shimrin' HOK white, which they recommend for a candy base color... Would't white make a very plain candy?

Most candies are a metallic base with a semi-transparent color over it.So when the light hits it you see the metallic sparkle underneath. Mike

With shimrim white you still need a kandy color to go over it. If you choose red then you will have a pink car, if you choose blue it will be a very baby blue, etc. Ditch the white and go with a darker base color. In my sites you will see a kandy blue over a mix of orion silver and snowhite, my wifes car is a kandy red over a bronze instead of the traditonal gold which gives it a deeper color.

Ok, so the lighter the base coat, the lighter the kandy would be... I don't think I would like a pink chevelle. The color of your wifes Camaro is amazing! One color I thought would be just awesome on a chevelle is... Well I don't know the exact name, but I saw it on a newer stepside F**d Ranger yesterday... It was a semi-light Kandy yellow-ish Limey-Green... Anyone know what color this is? I take it I would need a Yellow base coat with green candy?
