: When is a bumper junk?

The rear bumper on my 67 Malibu is pretty bad and I am planning on either getting a good OEM replacement or getting a reproduction, so my question is is the old bumper worthless? It has a few dents in it but the main problems are there are several tears in the metal along the bottom and around the tailight extension. I am not looking to sell or anything I just want to know if I should take it to the junk yard or if there are bumper restoration places that would want it for free.

Thanks
Greg

Many chrome plating shops have a pile of cores that they could sell you if yours is not worthy of re-plating. The one that I use would sell a very good core for $25.

The repro will be much cheaper, but not near as much of a bumper.

Any good bumper "reconditioner" could repair your bumper, tears and all. It would be a much nicer bumper than any repro I have ever seen.

Have them weld it and straighten it and give it back to you to trial fit before they chrome it.

Thanks for the comments.

Brian, since your in Northern California do you know of any good bumper shop in or around Sacramento? If not what about the bay area.

Thanks

We use Faith plating in San Jose, they have done a few vintage cars for us that were pretty nice. Not show quality, but pretty nice.
