I know. A long way from a Chevelle topic but I need some help with this project.
We tracked down a water "drip" into the trunk of a 56 we are working on. It is forward of the actual drain. There are 2 holes ( 1 on each side of the rear window) which appear to be factory holes and there is a water drip from the one on the drivers side. NO RUST as this car was totally restored.

Does any one know what these 2 small holes are for and why only 1 might be dripping?

It just so happens I have been a tri five "expert" lately.

I have done two frame offs on a 55 and a 56 lately.

The holes you talked about are indeed drains. There are four of them. Two up front on the windsheild corners and two in back in similar locations on the back window.

Originally there was an oblong shaped "funnel" in the holes which had a length of hose that carried any leaking water into the wheel well in the back and into the duct work of the cowl in the front. After 50 years they get brittle and break away.

Very interesting. I've owned two 56's and didn't know they had drains. '68-'72 GM A bodies needed drains like that (with hoses) on the rear windows. I guess GM didn't want to spend the money. Either that or planned obsolesence. Anyway I added drains to both my '69's.

von, how did you do this? we luckily don't get much rain here. after it does rain, i go straight to the trunk of my olds, and dry it out. luckily i haven't had any rust in the trunk yet, but it does get a little water in there...

This is good info. However I am trying to understand why there are 2 holes in each side of the rear window. 1 is certainly for the drain and the other is a much smaller drilled hole several inches towards the front around the base perimeter on each side. It is a very small hole about 1/32 in diameter and are on both sides in the same spot. They may be there as an air inlet to let air at the drain area or ???????

The one on the drivers side of the car we are working on dripped. the passenger side did not. We removed a piece of the cardboard from the package tray cover from the drain hole and perhaps the problem was as simple as water backing up from the drain to the smaller hole. All the drain hoses are attached.

Any ideas????
