ok so im building a 383 sbc, my cam specs are 510 lift, 236* duration at .050,and a 106 lsa it says its operating rpm range is 2,600-6,900 rpm, i am planing on running a 700r4 in my 69 elcamino. the trans is out of a 90s chevy caprice and had a $1200 rebuild 20,000 miles ago

1. wat ould be a good shift kit for it i really want it to shift hard
2 what stall converter should i run, i want to run either a 373, 390,or 411.
3. ok so lets say i run a 2500 stall converter with the 373 rearend. if i am crusing on the freeway at like 2200 rpm is that bad? with a lock up or non lock up converter? whats better?
4. if i cant do that then whats wrong with running the stokc converter that came with the trans?
5. also are the only mods i have to do to put that trans in is shorten the drive shaft, move the cross member back, and get another shifter( hae a b&m quicksilver shifter now...will use quicksilvershifter except for the 700r4 trans)?
6. are all 700r4 the same as far as gears and length? if so has anyone put one in their 69 elcamino and if so how much shorter is ur driveshaft?
7. i was reading about that electronic by pass thing for the 4th gear lock up? if i have a lockup converter wont it already be locked up? i dont really get it

thatnx a bunch

700R4's shift pretty good when you install a corvette band apply, the shift kits i have installed in 700R4's they shifted too violent . Violent hard shifts are hard on equipment .With the corvette band apply they shift normal under regular driving until you drop the hammer they churp pretty good first and second . You can take it to the tranny shop and tell them to plug the accumulators and that will take care of the harder shifts through out .I am not sure how much you wanna spend on it , stock 700R's have week sun shells .With that cam I would use a 3000 stall without lock up . Locking up your converter with that cam I bet it would chug at that low of a rpm . A stock converter I am sure you would run into idling problems at the lights , the stall of your stock converter is like 1500 ,plus I am sure it would be lazy also out of the hole . You are correct your driveshaft needs to be shortened not sure how much , I would have to look up the specs . Do you have a 400 or 350 turbo? If you are running the 350 turbo you can use that yoke but a 400 has a larger yoke .I think you can order a different shift plate for your existing shifter for a 700R or a 200R they are both the same. All 700R's are the same length .

is the corvetter band apply the same thing as the corvette servo that is in the shift kits on ebay?
also i have a turbo 350
ok so what if i run that 3000 stall converter, wats goin to happen on the freeway crusing at 2200 rpm?

Yes a corvette servo is the same thing . A 3000 converter is going to slip a bit , but I would install a good cooler . I think a 2500 converter might be a little tight for your combination .

hmm wat do u mean itll be a little tight?
n wats goin to happen if im on the freeway?
wouldnt a lockup converter be better
cuz theres no slippage so less heat right?

What I mean by tight 2500 rpm stall might not before stall for your combination . If you lock up your converter at around 2000 rpm , your 383 might buck and carry on because of your cam profile . It might like cruising around 2500+.

Don't you believe him? LOL

If your cam's operating range is 2600-6900, you want a converter that will get you into that range.

What converter would you recommend to get it into that range?
