Hey guys, I'm pondering on the idea of mini tubbing my Chevelle. I've been looking around a bit on the net for a kit. I've come across a few but they dont seem to be convincing. As in, they say this part number works on a Chevelle but on the manufactures website its for a Nova. Also, I wouldn't mind being able to run a 315 or wider tire in the rear.

Any help would be great!

I've seen a chevelle run a 315 rear tire w/o tubs. I believe all he did was to roll the lip inside the fender, and used something like a 6 inch backspace on his rims. You might find the article on super chevy's (http://www.superchevy-web.com) web site.

I saw the article in chevelle magazine, put out by super chevy. The chevelle was being built for red line oil, this might help you find it in a search. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Chris Alston's Chassisworks is located here in Sacramento and I went by there one day after work to ask about this. Their showroom is full of kits and the quality of their work is second to none. Everything is top of the line. When I asked why no kits for Chevelles, the guy told me that they looked into it and you really don't gain much (maybe .5"). Unless you are adding a subframe with narrowed rearend, it's really not cost effective. With proper backspacing you can fit an 11" wheel with little or no modification to the stock wheelwell. Why bother?

Ya, the more and more I read the more I'm thinking about not doing it. Rolling the fenders is going to kill the strength in the fender and the cars a daily driver so no go. Perhaps when I get more money I will narrow the rear of the frame and tub it.

Thanks guys.

If you want to run a 315 tire w/o worries, why not buy 17x10 wheels with 5.5" or 5.75" backspacing? A 17x11 rim is optimum but a 17x10 will work fine, too.
315's on a 17x10 rim with the above backspacing will fit 68-72 Chevelles and El Caminos like a glove.
