I would tend to think that your travel speed is too slow. With thin aluminum you will be travelling at over 300 inches per minute. Also Aluminum shielding gas is normally mixtures of Argon and Nitrogen with additions of Hydrogen up to about 35%. Carbon steel shielding gas is usually mixtures of compressed air and Nitrogen with up to 10% Hydrogen, or Nitrogen with Oxygen. If you are trying to cut Aluminum with compressed air or oxygen mixes, the oxygen is reacting with the molten aluminum. Your flow-rate should also be up in the 170 cu.ft./hr.
