I yanked the rear out of my Chevelle for some upgrades. I have the whole unit drum to drum sitting on jackstands. I wanted to check the pinion bearing preload as a reference for where it is now. For a used pinion bearing, how many inch-pounds should it take to turn the pinion with the carrier installed and without the carrier installed.
This is a 12 bolt rear with eaton posi.
Thanks guys.

You probably won't be able to measure the preload on used bearings. It is usually less than 5 inch pounds. Pinion bearing preload is measured with the differential removed.
