: I would like to thank all the PROs for the attitude
zachscc Feb 22nd, 04, 4:46 PM I just talked to a old friend of mine that has been at a body shop for 9 years. We are great friends but when I ask him questions he just clams up and says oh it's really hard, it is obvious he doesn't want to reveal the tricks of the trade or share his knowledge. I have another aquaintence that is a husband of my wifes freind that has a auto body degree and he usually has the same, it's a secret I don't want to talk about it attitude when I ask him body and paint questions as well.
SO I would like to thank, Eric, Brian, Mike69ss and all the other pros that have helped me so much for free and never had this atitude. Every time day I look at the wifes car and think I would have never been able to do that (and save $5000) if it had not been for the internet graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Thanks for posting this.
Many people figure the 'internet' has all the answers, but it's the people like you mentioned that make this all work. they have busy lives yet still take the time to (sometimes over and over) answer questions that nobody else will.
THANKS! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
bradford Feb 22nd, 04, 8:11 PM i will agree and sometimes even a small amount of app graemlins/thumbsup.gif reciation will go along way.
New68SS Feb 22nd, 04, 10:31 PM I think I'm going to paint Amyes Z28 myself based solely on knowing that any question I will have, has been answered by you guys on here somewhere.
I've linked guys with panel alignmenmt problems on the 2nd Gen Camaro site to MARTINSR "Basics of Basics" many times and they always have success following his post.
Thanks a lot fellows!
Dwayne

MARTINSR Feb 23rd, 04, 10:20 AM Thank you for the kind words. As I have said before, I really enjoy this work. I can remember when I was fighting to try to do things, it isn't fun. If I can help a guy skip that fight and just do it like I do now, that is awesome.
And let me tell you right now, there is nothing to this work. Sure, there is a certain "art" and born skill that some people have. Sure, there are some people that have a built in skill level that is higher than others.
But it is just not that hard. I think that is what many people think, they really think, that what they do is so magical, the mere mortal couldn't possibly grasp what they do. smile.gif
HOG WASH, all this stuff consists of is many, many steps. Each and every one of us can be walked thru our computer by the tech on the help line, deep into the thing, far further than any "mere mortal" can go, and FIX the darn thing. Body and paint is no different. Just learn each of these steps, one at a time and you have a totally restored car.
I am just darn to see guys be able to "get it" and find the enjoyment in doing their cars by them selves.
Just don't neglect the family!!!
Buzzbomb Feb 23rd, 04, 11:43 AM I agree with "I would have never been able to do that if it had not been for the internet" and in thanking people like MartinSr. I mean, where else WOULD (or have the opportunity) people such as MartinSr give hobbyists honest to goodness PRO tech advice?! Dont try it at the body shop, like you said. They are in business to make money, not to give away their "secrets". I suppose books are sorta the same thing, BUT- its not in "real time" as specific issues come up with a project. THAT, IMHO, what makes the internet, and "automotively", this site in particular, so great.
Thanks also to Al GOre, for inventing the Internet!! tongue.gif
sevt_chevelle Feb 23rd, 04, 8:51 PM Zach, thank you for the post! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Its always nice to know that someone appreciates the time and effort ALL of us spend on this site or other sites.
All I want in return is to see some pics of that 53. Am HUGE fan of the "AD" chevy trucks, one of the best looking vehicles EVER...Eric

LKN BCK Feb 23rd, 04, 11:46 PM The big hearts here at TC made the restoration of my car exciting and fun! They made me feel like the little engine that could, with the fresh information daily and the seach function that helped keep the fire burning it always made me tell myself I think I can, I think I can, I think I can! and I did. The quality of the information made my car turn out good enough to make me very happy. And get a few trophys(WOW what a feeling)
TC helped creat my Chevelle, thats why after it was mostly finished... I felt the need to share it with you all. I am now a TC member and my license plate is and has been LKN BCK.
Maybe AL will put my car photo with some of these words in the Looking Back section of the monthly newsletter. ;) tongue.gif (WOW that would be a great feeling) Sometimes dreams do come true!
THANKS to all who have helped me and many others who have asked!!! DANO
