: Coverting to Front Disc, should I stay away from these?
Lapper Feb 9th, 07, 10:09 PM http://www.classicperform.com/Store/1964_1972_Chevelle_Elcamino/6466CBKS.htm
These look pretty good to me, not too high end, but at least drilled. But has anyone had a bad experience with these, should I stay away?
Or if anyone has some recommends, please let me know. I can do the work myself, so looking for a farily easy complete kit.
Much thanks,
JL
Rich-L79 Feb 10th, 07, 1:01 AM If you are interested in the best performance, avoid drilled or slotted rotors altogether. For street/everyday driving, solid rotors are a much better choice.
Lapper Feb 10th, 07, 1:14 AM Rich,
Yeah, stick with solid rotors? Good to know. I was wondering if all that wasn't a bit of a snake oil sales gimmic - I am sure those other rotors are beneficial to some, but...
Is there a kit out there you would recommend? I have searched here on the Team Chevelle and have found some links/threads but they seem to be a bit old. Not that that matters much, but I would like to know if there's a really amazing kit out there, that fits like a glove and comes complete, and as assembled as possible.
Am I dreaming?
72SSAbody Feb 10th, 07, 1:31 AM JL,
Are you looking for something close to stock (like you don't want to upgrade wheel size etc.) or are you wanting a hog wild setup. Maybe even something in between?
Joe
Lapper Feb 10th, 07, 11:19 AM I would love to keep a straight stock look and feel to the ride. Nothing hog wild. I have 15" Rally wheels which I want to keep as well.
I asking for the world, I know, when I say I want something simple, easy, affordable and will get the job done. My right leg is twice the size of myleft now from stompng on that pedal!

cbecnel Feb 10th, 07, 11:31 AM I bought the same kit from these guys for my 72 Chevelle this X-mas. Everything went together great, no problems at all with the installation. However, I am catching hell with bleeding the brakes.
I have 15" Crager rims and they clear the calipers with no problem. As far as the slotted and drilled rotors are concered, I got them and think they look cool. Maybe, if I can ever bleed the brakes, I will tell you how they perform
norvalwilhelm Feb 10th, 07, 8:30 PM Go to hydroboost. It is the best thing you can do for your brakes. You must have a power steering pump but it really is far superior to the vacuum assist and really gives alot more room around the drivers valve cover.
Hydroboost is compact and extremely powerful
I have run drilled rotors for 20 years without a problem. I recently upgraded to 14 inch custom rotor and they are also drilled.
This is a 12 inch stock rotor that has had 3 pounds taken out of it with drilling and turning beside my new homemade 14 inch rotor and aluminum hat. I drilled this rotor also. I am not afraid of cracking and the holes allow gas and dirt to exit from under the pad.
