I need some help with wheel fitment. My 70 will have C5 brakes up front and 95ish Z/28 brakes out back. Does anyone have any experience with this combo and if so, whats size/backspace are your wheels. I want to get the wheels so so I can actually install all those brake parts I mentioned, since they have a little trouble fitting behind 14" SS wheels. Thanks for any input you guys have!

I have C5's and 98LS1(f-body) rear brakes on my 72 cutlass. I have 17X9 AR's with 6" backspacing. I have not put them on yet but I am certain they will fit. Almost any aluminum rim in 17" will fit on C5's, steel 17" will not fit without modification to the caliper.
If you want a templet to find the exact rims size for you application contact tobin and www.KORE3.com I will give you undates in march when I put my rims on if you can wait that long. Just send me a PM so I can save you info. Pics will be included.

Those brakes shouldn't widen the track on either end so normal widths & backspacing that work on a 68-72 apply here.
How wide do you want to go?

I think I will be going 18x8 in front and maybe 18x8 in the rear too, but no wider than 18x10 in the rear. Guess it all depends on what wheels I end up getting.

Still currently stock brakes but here's a '70 w/18" wheels:

With the right backspace, 18x8 & 18x10's would fit your car like a glove.

So would this sound right? 18x8 on all 4 corners with a 4 or 4.5" backspace. If I did run staggered wheels, what would be the right backspacing in the rear for an 18x9 or 18x10?
Also Musclecarjohn, whats your wheel width and backspacing? You car looks great! Clint, are those rear wheels 13" wide?? Nice!

4.5" backspace for the 18x8's, 5" for the 18x9's, and 5.5" for the 18x10's.
Yep,they are 13" wide. Have tons of room under my car.

My wheels are 18x8's (4" b/s) all-around w/265/35's in front and 285/35's in the rear.
I purchased these from a friend of mine who ordered them for his '69 Camaro and measured wrong. They are not idea for these cars, certainly 4.5" b/s would have been a better call.4" is too tight towards the fenders.

If I had to do it again from scratch,I'd run 9.5's in the front and 11's in the rear.

Thanks John. Thats good info, I am kinda leaning towards 18x8's on all four corners with 4.5" backspace, with around 245/40's. I figure that wheel size will also work out in the future if the wheels end up on a different car, since this is my first Chevelle and definitely not my last! You've got a real nice fleet yourself!

One follow up question for anyone else who may know. Will 18" Torque Thrust II's clear the C5 Caliper all the way around? Thanks!

I would think a 4.5" b/s on an 18" wheel would be an absolute minimum,Clint44's got the right idea.
