: any help here...?
lanceporter Feb 8th, 07, 8:59 PM Hello, and thanks for reading my thread, I posted 4 pictures of what I think will tell me what I have, if anyone can respond I would really appreciate it... there is no numbers below the head on the passenger side of the block, only these above the oil filter. The kid I bought the car off of, tells me its a 350 small block out of a '78 camero... thanks. lance
I think "engine 002" is the clearest.
troutdog Feb 8th, 07, 9:03 PM There is a casting # behind the valve cover on the driverside. That's the number you need.
lanceporter Feb 8th, 07, 9:53 PM Ohhh...I'll try to get a picture of that tomorrow... please stay tuned.
lanceporter Feb 9th, 07, 9:27 PM I will post a picture but the # is GM 3956618
troutdog Feb 9th, 07, 9:34 PM 3956618....350.....69....2 or 4 bolt
This is what Mortec says
http://www.mortec.com/
troutdog Feb 9th, 07, 9:36 PM Meaning it's a 350 from 1969 could be a 2 or 4 bolt. Have to go inside to see the mains tho. Hope this helps,,,
lanceporter Feb 9th, 07, 9:44 PM Big time, thanks a lot Trout dog...
No big plans, it runs strong...
Think it's worth keeping? or if I was to spend some money should I go with a ZZ383 crate, or something like that...
Also what do you think of those kits that come with the cam, heads and lifters...?
chevguy65 Feb 9th, 07, 9:48 PM 3956618....302.....69....4...Z-28 Camaro
3956618....327...68-69...2
3956618....350.....69....2 or 4
Any of these
troutdog Feb 9th, 07, 9:56 PM your right chevyguy,,,I over looked those. Why would they have the same casting tho? werd
troutdog Feb 9th, 07, 10:05 PM Sorry Lance,,trying to help. You'll have to look further on the motor for more identification. Maybe the head casting. Maybe a whole new post will get the help you need.
lanceporter Feb 9th, 07, 10:06 PM One other thing, if you look at the picture next to the GM #, it has 10 dots in a circle to the right of the number, does the arrow pointing to "5 o'clock" mean anything? How would I narrow it down?... also I'm going to post a picture of the the front of the heads, would that help with the i.d., they have a pattern on the front...any info would be great, and thanks again.
BlackSSaz Feb 10th, 07, 10:44 AM the 'clock' you are referring to is the time of day the motor was cast. No bigge. What does the front pad (in front of the passengers side heade) say?
As far as crate motors, I thinkthe best bang for the buck is year ones 400hp 350 that sells for 3k.
bc69ss Feb 10th, 07, 11:15 AM Anybody looking for block and head decoding info. I think alot of people use this site. www.mortec.com I go there all the time.
